The allfreecrafts.com site was already in there, but I just added a direct link to the platypus under "Toys".

As for your 2nd question- ME!!!:rotfl:

Wow, you HAVE been around since the very beginning!

Woo-hoo!!   Who's going on your new trip!?

Our January 2009 trip is just ME and HUBBY! I guess it could be considered an "anniversary trip", except that our anniversary is December 30th, and we'll celebrate 14 years this year. SO, no one really celebrates the 14th anniversary with a trip, do they? The last time we had an adult only vacation together was when we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We're really looking forward to enjoying the World in grown up style!

First of all, I measured my little girl across, then I added an inch to the sides and on the top. Then I cut the front top torso out, and just guessed for the armholes (told you it's not very technical!)

Then I cut out a strip that was 2 inches high and curved up on the sides to meet the front piece. I pinned them together. Then I measured my little girl and how long I thought a dress skirt should be. I used the width of my material and cut the height. I pleated it using guesswork and pinned 2 pieces (one in front and one in back) to the top pieces to make the skirt. Sewed those 4 pieces together.

Took a strip of gingham material and folded it over twice and lined the top of the dress and pinned it in place. Carefully sewed it. I don't like my stitches to show, so I made sure I was very careful to get it straight.

Then I took a piece of gingham that and folded it to make the ruffle in front. I first sewed it upside down, then folded it down and sewed the back the back piece to the front of the dress. It gives it a little flare and covers my stitching. For the hem, I took 2 strips of gingham (about 50 squares high and the width of the material) and folded them once and sewed it to the dress.

For the straps, I took 2 pieces of gingham and sewed them together, then turned them inside out and sewed them to the dress. That's it! Took a few hours total and I did it while watching TV.

As far as hand sewing, I love it. It's relaxing and it gives me something to do with my hands while watching TV. My hands have to be busy all the time! I've tried using a machine several times in my life, but I HATE the bobbins, threading the machine, breaking needles, trying to keep the stitching straight, and most of the time my hems come out. I've made pillows and skirts when I was a teenager, and they were all crap, lol. With hand stitching, I know that what I'm sewing will never come undone and I can get it very precise. By the time I got the machine threaded and going, I could have had it hand sewed.

Last night I started on my oldest daughter's dress. We watched a couple of shows and I cut the material and pinned it together. This morning, while my girls were sleeping, I sewed what I had pinned. I have the front about done, just need to add another ruffle. Then I'll do the back and the trim. I should have it done tonight or tomorrow. I didn't want to do the same dress for her, because I hate sewing the same design twice, I want something new and different each time, so her dress will be a different design. Hopefully I can throw some bows together too, I've never made bows before, so I'm nervous! :cutie:

thanks! I am always tempted to just wing the pattern! i am like you i do alot of guessing at my sewing even with a pattern!

I would celebrate my 14th anniversary with a trip...heck, I celebrate every anniversary with a trip. In fact, I apparently celebrate everything. Today is my 9th anniversary at my job (again...not a really a "big deal") and I have a beautiful bouquet of roses from my supervisor on my desk!

minnie2- Yes, that's exactly it, it's just a lot of guesswork and winging it!

I took a quick picture of the dress I'm currently working on. I cut the top the width and height of my dd's torso, and added a 1/2 inch to an inch. I cut a curve for the arm hole on one side, folded it and cut the other armhole using the first as a guide. Then I used a strip of material I had leftover from the other dress for the front and pleated/pinned it. Then I added a ruffle, and another strip with another ruffle. I'm going to add one more, to get the dress to her knees.

Then I'll trim the top like the other dress. For the straps, I'm going halter style on the top and will sew ties for the back on the side of the top piece. I'll cut a strip of material the same width as the front and I'm going to put elastic on the top of it. It'll sit right under the back tie. (kind of hard to envision, I'm sure!) and then will add the layers of ruffles. I'm thinking of putting a bow on the front that will match the one in her hair.

Wow you guys are just plugging on away! Sorry we have been busy so I have been gone. Hopefully soon I will get to post pictures of my sewing room as that is what we have been working on. :) It is getting close, not exactly what I wanted but it is getting there.

I have been here since the first too but not till about the 90th page lol.

The bullseye outfit is AWESOME. I know there is a ton of stuff I have missed. :( Shannon congrats on your vaca this winter! I bet you guys will have a GREAT time!

Love it! I totally get what you are saying too which is :scared1: you give me hope that I can put in play some of the ideas I have in my head.
Need to finish my moms purse. I love it so far and i hope to finish it today!

Here is my Big Give outfit for Isabelle. I hope it fits! My model is I would think smaller, but not too sure!

I decided to go with lounge pants and a t so it could be worn to bed or just to lounge around in. I have seen so many beautiful outfits and think she'll probably have plenty for all days!

I think that is a great loungewear outfit.

Heather I cannot believe that I have misse like 5 updates...I don't know where I was but I am trying to catch up!! Then I have to update my own. ADD IT TO THE LIST!!!:headache: I seem to be SOOO behind on projects its not even funny. Got littles 4th outfit cut out yesterday, nothing like waiting till the last minute. I was altering the pattern a bit and don't think I added enough extra to the ruffle so I still have to cut 1 strip of ruffle fabric. I also decided I didn't like one of the fabrics I picked so I would 86 it, use the 4th fabric as the ruffle and 86 the ruffle coordinate I'd picked out. SO it really wasn't the outfit I had in my head when I started out. That's ok. OH and I planned on a simple applique on the bodice but since it's only 4" long I think an applique will be crowded and take up too much of the fabric which I LOVE!!! So again, not what I had planned. Hopefully I'll have pics for you all tomorrow. I'd like to make some hair bows for her but it is so close and I've never made them before....looks like she'll be hairbowless.:sad2: What kind of mother am I??? I really need to get on with learning the art of hair bow making.

So cute! I think she could wear tat any time not just lounging.

Guess who is leaving early for Disney?!! I am freaking out I have to still finish Kaitlyn and Madis Princess outfits, and we are leaving the 3rd!
 You must all be SO excited!!!! Have a great trip!

How sweet!! We're going to the Crystal Palace too, we can't wait! Love the dress!
Thanks! We are actually going twice-breakfast & lunch and then I'm going a 3rd time for breakfast with a friend before we do the Keys to the Kingdom Tour while I leave the kids with DH & another friend.

I'm hoping to go the first week in February, maybe from Sunday to Friday (whatever dates that may be). But, I'm using skymiles, so we'll see when I can actually get a flight.

That's the same week I'm hoping to go!! Wouldn't that be funny if we were there at the same time again?

I have always loved that fabric and that top turned out too cute!!
Thanks!

I was thinking with my DD having 1/2 days on the Wed & Thu we could go 5 nights Tuesday to Sunday and she would miss 2 full days of school and 2 half days BUT we could go for 8 nights and she would only miss 1 more day.:rolleyes1 She'll be in the 4th grade so I know I won't be able to take her out too many more years. I too have to wait and see what air fare is like. I have enough points for a free round trip on Jet Blue but it is really 2 one way tickets so I can use it on the more expensive flight which is nice. I also like the idea of flying on Sunday giving her the Saturday at home to get her homework done before we go.

I really love that material, and the top turned out great!
Thanks!

I found this link while looking for something different to make. I thought it would be cute to do as Perry the Platypus.

Cute!

hey that came out really darling!!
Thanks!

This thread is soo slow right now! Where is everyone? Sewing???? I cut out 65 squares for Sara Beths patchwork twirl skirt so I am about halfway there! Instead of using a rotary cutter I just made a little pattern and cut out about 8 pieces at a time.
:wizard: Good luck with your patchwork twirl!

Thanks!

JUST WONDERED!
Has anyone noticed my new ticker?
Cool!

I can't wait to see it! I bought some Lion King sheets from :wizard: and can't wait to turn them into something! Now if only I had a nice long Disneyworld trip coming up...:sad1: Yesterday I made that Cars outfit, two pairs of cropped pants, or beach pants as we call them on our etsy site, for Luke, some 4th of July shorts for Luke and a 4th of July guitar applique tee for Seth. The strings are all messed up on the guitar but I am NOT unpicking them! From afar it looks okay. The important thing is he loves it, right? I'll try to get pictures later.

That is such a cute outfit!!!!

Love everything that has been created lately!!! I'm trying to finish up some last minute 4th of July outfits, will post pics when they are complete.

BTW, I have been meaning to ask.....what is with all the rage of the bobbin winder????? I picked one up the other day at Wal-Mart ($4.00 on clearance from $30) b/c everyone seemed to be getting one and I didn't want to be left out! LOL

Let me just jump in here and say that you will NEVER EVER NEVER NEVER ...NEVER catch me hand sewing. I'm far too impatient for that! It's why I don't really knit. I like the accomplishment of finishing projects far more than their actual creation. I actually only tolerate sewing, it's the planning, pattern and fabric picking and then the beaming at what I created that I love.
...t.

I'm totally with you on that. There are some steps I don't mind but too often I'll just stop before a project is totally finished because I don't like to hand sew. I like to knit but rarely get anything finished.

What a great deal. I need to go to Wal Mart today so I'll be checking the clearance section. I've never used one but it would be nice to be able to wind a bobbin without having to unthread the sewing machine. I know it's not that big a deal to use the sewing machine to wind the bobbin and rethread it again but it interrupts the flow. Also, I go through a lot of bobbin thread for applique so it would be nice to be able to get a bobbin winding while I continue to sew on my machine.

That makes sense. I guess since I usually only have the one spool of thread of the color I am using, it didn't seem to be for me b/c I am already having to unthread the machine to do the bobbin.

lovesdumbo,
Please let me know how the Keys to the kingdom tour is I am itching to do that. every time i take the kids to my ped he tells me how great it was. i just call him a show off!

Before I forget for the billionth time

ROBNKRIS!!!!!! Krista, I don't know if you found it or not or if you still want it (I think you already went to wdw???) I was at walmart saturday and found 2 yds and some change of the pink mickey fabric you were looking for on clearance for $2 a yd. I picked it up just in case. If you still need/want it PM me.

OK, I am having a heck of a time. There are so many designers on the disigns board I couldn't possibly sort through them all. Anyone have a favorite?? I am looking for a do you dis design as well as SOMETHING for the family.

TIA

Michelle and Veronica have really cute designs. I had some designs made up for shirts for the plane for the family. Now I'm just hoping my crappy printer is up to the task.

HEATHER...Did you make yours yourself or did you save the design and download it to Zazzle or something?

I just bought tickets to Mickey's Halloween Treat! Or as they are now calling it, "Mickey's Trick-or-Treat"       Last year we went on Halloween night. This year we will be there earlier. The kids are so excited about having TWO HALLOWEENS!!! It didn't sell out really fast so this year I'm surprised that the tickets on that night are a lot more money than the other nights. :confused3 We had a blast though! This year I hope Luke can stay awake. Now I have to figure out costumes, like should the kids wear their regular Halloween costumes, or should I make a bunch of Disney ones for the family? Last year we were all pirates. This year Jayden so far wants to be Elphaba, but I would love to have her be Miley Cyrus with her black petti, so if we're doing two Halloweens maybe she can be both. I have a Wicked Queen costume I bought from the Disney store a few years ago. It would be fun to be Fairy Godmother, but that might be kinda hot. (not smokin' hot :lmao:, just sweaty hot)

Oh HOORAY Jeanne!! I love halloween. But I make everyone wear their costume for MNSSHP and Halloween. I like for them to get some use after I make them!! We are doing Alice in Wonderland this year. Lily and I are going to be tiny and Giant Alice:laughing: B is gonna be the mad hatter and his mom the queen of hearts. We are thinking Gavin should be the king but that would make his dad the march hare (which he was none too pleased about) or a card???

You really have got them trained well if she wants to be Elphaba. I told Mac to download Wicked on his ipod and he was like "you said I can't read Wicked" I said "You can't" he said "Then why can I download the soundtrack?" I said "GO TO YOUR ROOM":sad2:
