Do you wash a sealed package of underwear before wearing? I always have as it still just gives me the creeps.

2nd question what water temp do you wash your underwear in? I have always used warm as that is what my mom always did. I contemplate using hot but am afraid that will breakdown the material too fast. However, talking to co-workers they wash everything, including underwear in cold water.

I wash all news clothes before they hit my skin. Didn't used to but I've got really sensitive skin now and I don't want any of the "finishing" chemicals on the clothes to irritate my skin. For packaged stuff, it never has occurred to me that they are gross or dirty, but it's more about washing any sizing or what have you out of it.

I wash anything that considered delicate in cold water. This would be my work clothes, things that I don't want to fade out, etc. Underwear generally gets a warm wash.

I'd probably wear them, probably cleaner out of the sealed package than they ever will be out of my washer. My wife, however, grabs them and washes them before I can put them out.

Warm water here.

Now, see, it's the opposite in our house. If it's packaged, I don't wash it first. But my husband will open his underwear and socks (both packaged) and toss them in the wash basket.

I used to work in a factory that made polo shirts and track suits a long time ago. Clothes go though a lot of hands. From the person making the fabric to one that cuts a pattern , to the person that sews on piece then another that sews the elastic band then to the person that has to put them in a package. Plus there is no guarantee that one piece didn't fall on the floor...lol

Not to mention the chemicals that go into dyes and stuff.

With that said I do not wash any new shirts , they never have that crisp new feel to them or any dresses I buy that can be washed.

I wash almost everything in warm.

I sometimes wear stuff without washing and that includes underwear.

I wash everything in cold water and then it goes in the dryer.

No pre washing. I am lazy.

I wash in cold (except cleaning cloths, cloth napkins, etc---where heat is needed to really kill strong germs) and hang to dry

For those washing in warm vs. cold water - what's your point?? It won't have any different effect on germs! I have always washed everything in cold. The dryer heat can take care of germs if anything will. I hang lots of 'outer' clothes to dry - dresses, shirts, etc.

Sometimes I was before wearing, usually not due to laziness.

Wash everything except for whites and sometimes towels in cold water.

I wear without washing. I think I wash in warm (or whatever is the cotton setting).

Warm water is actually better at cleaning many items than cold water.

I prefer to wash most new things just because they soften a bit, but it doesn't always happen.:)

Occasionally I wash new items of clothing prior to wearing. I wash in cold water. I always remove items from packaging before washing.

No I don't wash before wearing when its an unopened package.

I wash everything but towels and sheets on warm.
I used to wash most things on cold until we started having soap build up on our clothes and read our washing machine manual that states that you should use "warm" instead of cold because the water temp for cold is usually freezing cold and most washing machines and laundry detergents consider cold at 60 degrees not ice cold.
I use hot for sheets and towels.
