Package tickets: do they begin at check in?

My parents booked a split trip to Disney and Universal. They are staying on-site at both resorts. Their Universal stay is for the second half of the trip, with 3 nights spent in a Universal resort.

My question: the Universal tickets that were included with their package include "2 extra days." Would they be able to use their Universal tickets prior to their Universal hotel dates? Or since it is a package, would the date of those tickets begin at the date of hotel check-in?

Thanks in advance to anyone with info for my parents. :)

The email confirmation that they received when they booked their package should tell them the start date of their tickets.
