That would be me. And I'm in australia.
Pete hasn't sent through the list of name of people who put themselves forward as yet, but I think this would be a cool way for a bunch of people to connect who are interested in doing this.
As an American by birth who just moved to Australia... I can feel your pain Princess Jes. I still have a mild heart attack at the prices charged for stuff in Australia. Knowing that the same product (that comes from the same manufacturing plant) is MUCH less in America.
It's been a challenge to retrain my brain for Australia pricing...but getting there.
Like avocados sell for less than 85 cents U.S.
Just bought one Avo at shop here for $3.98
My wife's makeup I use to buy in mass bulk in America. It's around $15 after tax
The same makeup (a bit smaller sized you get in Aus) sells for $65 here in Australia.
Wife also loves Nike shoes
Vegas outlet max $100us. Usually buy one pair get one free.
She just bought a new pair of nikes here in Australia for $400.00 and I was on the shop floor!
The list can go on and on
International shipping is getting ridiculous as well. Since my family still live in U.S. They send stuff time to time of things. But it cost couple hundred dollars for a large package. Even the U.S. Flat rate stuff now starts at around $40 if I recall correctly.
Just now getting caught up on the dis unplugged where pete was asking for help
I will contact them and let them know that in sure my mother would love to help. Since she's still in U.S. And she's already running around for our random lists lol
Just one thing I have learned. Be careful what you buy from overseas and ship to Australia. The reason the prices are sometime higher is import duties and taxes have to be paid on those goods. Having someone write false goods deceleration and price valuations on your package is a major crime.
Almost people sendin things tend to do this. As they think it's harmless...but it's not.
I must admit it's difficult to find out how much import tax or duty you will have to pay. You will be contacted once your package enters Australia and they will tell you then how much you have to pay to release the package to you.
I do know that 100% certainty anything that values over $1,000 is automatically subject to taxes and duites. So keep that in mind.
Also buying goods online will soon be charge the goods and services tax...as I think that new law was just passed here in Australia. But will take sometime to be enacted. Interesting to see how that affects everything. And for buying goods online overseas
All said and done
I use to be one of those Americans who lived in Vegas that made fun of all the overseas tourist you see shopping. And each member of the family is pulling one or two new suitcases full of their shopping spree.
But now I get it
Stuff is so much cheaper and it pays (no pun intended) not to pack anything and just shop til you drop and being back 3 or 4 suitcases of stuff you bought on holiday.
Love that the Dis not only connects all of us Disney fans...but it's more of an extended family/ Community where we can help one another.
The Dis is simply the best site/thing that exists on the internet today!!
Wishing you all the best Princess Jes
