Package Question that I KNOW has been asked!

I currently have a package deal reserved for December. We had a pin for 30% off the room. We also have the park hoppers and meal plan. But I have a few questions for the Disney Veterans up here.

!. Would we save money by renting the room only and getting the tickets from AAA?

2. Can you still include the meal plan with a room only ressie ?

Our daughter's first year in college this Aug is taking a big bite into the budget, so we need as many money saving tips as possible to still get everyone to see the mouse in Dec.

You can't add the meal plan with a room only reservation, so if you want the dining plan, you need to get the package with tickets through Disney. There are some exceptions, like AP holders and DVC members, but for the rest of us, you have to buy tickets to get the DDP. You can run the numbers both ways and see what works best - All Ears has the menus with prices if you want to calculate paying for meals out of pocket.

You would save money on the ticket portion of your trip if you bought them thru AAA or one of the other ticket agencies that discount tickets. But then you would no longer have a package which means that you couldn't purchase the dining addon.

One way to get around this would be to have an AP and then use an AP room discount with dining added on. This only works if there is an AP room discount for the resort and dates that you are interested in. Only the first person on the reservation would need to have an AP. The rest can get their tickets from anywhere.

only other way around it is military rates... military can book a room at the military rate and add dining without buying tickets!
