Package Price vs. Resort & Tickets?

Hi,

My DW, DS (7), and I have booked a package at POR for 5 nights in late September. The past two trips we booked a package with the resort magic option. How much could I expect to save by booking the resort and tickets seperately vs going with a resort magic package? We do plan on doing BB one day, otherwise the rest of the time will be spent at the 4 major parks. I am not looking for exact numbers, just a rough guess as to the difference in price.

Thanks.

I would say a few hundred at least. You might want to check into the Fall Fantasy package. I know that can be a great rate for some people. A friend of mine got a better rate with that (which includes tickets and the room, no flex feature) than if she had purchased an Annual Pass and gotten a AP discount on her room.

For a comparison, POR is 147.63/night for late September. And here are the ticket prices.

So hotel would be $738.15 for the five nights and then the tickets. And there are discounts out right now for late September, which could save you even more on the room! You can find those here: DIScount Codes

I would price out the room only+ticket option and then also the Fall Fantasy package option.

It sounds like with your plans the Resort Magic Plan is definitely not in your best interests. With your plan the 5 day hopper plus sounds like your best bet for park entry.

Resort Magic for 5 nights at a moderate runs roughly $1,700 for 2 adults and a child.

With the code on www.mousesavers.com right now you could get 5 nights at PO for roughly $500 at the end of September as long as they still have availability. If you buy your tickets from one of the discount sites, like www.floridaticketsinc, you can get 5 day hopper plus passes for your family for about $700. So if you can get the great deals running right now you could possibly save $500 off the Resort Magic package. Which should pay for most of your food on your trip.

Happy Planning!!!

I don't know.... I did the summer saver package for this summer, and once you take off the price of the airline tickets (which I got a better deal for through Disney) it was around 2k give or take 50$ for one week at PO-R, length of stay passes (or whatever they call this now) for 2 adults, a 10 year old (considered adult) and a 3 year old. I got the airline tickets through Disney for about 50 less each then they were running that day for the exact same flights (and they are darn good). So, if I had purchased it all separately, I would have spent...750 or so on room and ~ 1290 on passes (ultimate park hopper with discount already applied), which is about the same as the price I got on the package deal quoted that day. However I opted for package, to get the better deal on the airline. Also, I don't have to deal with anything now... just do my ressie and wait for things to arrive. No trying to coordinate it all over the place.

Total package for us including airfare at that time was a little over 3100. Now, checking the price of airfare, it is 1436, which was about 436 more than I paid at the time. So the deal keeps getting better in my mind. I wouldn't have been able to get cheaper tickets for airfare if I had done it separately and waited. In fact I would be out another few hundred dollars.

I have done this several times on Disney and other places. Using a travel agent and not... usually 50% of the time I can get a better deal without a travel agent. and if I am patient, about 90% of the time I get the same or better deal using a package compared to doing things separately. However, there are always the exceptions. Where they cost more on room, you get cheaper airfare, or more expensive airfare, but make up for it in price of room...etc...

That is my take on it.

It all depends on the deals u get when purchasing individually. For me it always is cheaper to book separately and I save alot, but I also keep up with the airfare etc and book as soon as the price is right. For instance: 2 months ago I booked our SW airlines airfare, round trip for me and hubby including taxes and fees: $264.00...when I saw this I grabbed it knowing that it was pretty much the best I will get for two of us from Chicago, and good thing I did cuz I checked it again yesterday and that exact same ressie would now cost me $427.00. I also got our room at CBR for 769.00 for 7 nights for a King bed. My tickets will cost less than 410.00 total so my homemade pkg for 8 days is about $1443.00....we just have to add in our food and souvinirs....I really do think separate pricing is the way to go IF you don't mind acting as your own travel agent.

Orbitz.com is a great place to check airfare in one spot, I usually check it there and then go to the actual airline site, it is 10.00 cheaper on the airline site. I think SW Air is the only one not listed on Orbitz

I live in Dallas, and get SCREWED on airfare... thank you Wright amendment. We got tickets on American for about 225 each, but that was through the Disney package. Anything separately was anywhere from 50 - 100 + more expensive per person... Oh except for Airtran, which was about 15 $ less, but SUCKY (read, late arrival on first day, and EARLY departure on last day) and we had to switch planes in Atlanta.

For Southwest, I can't fly anyfreaking where from Dallas... oh excuse me I can fly to the few states allowed by law from Love field. Lets see, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and a couple of others, but nowhere that I want to go. We used to get such great deals from Houston when we were there. On both Southwest and Continental.

Check out OnlineVacationMall.com

We booked 4 nights at POR for $392 (2 people) including tranfers!!!

Not sure what you would save, however, my sister is a travel agent & has always told us to book WDW al a carte because you get a much better deal, even w/out any discounts.
