Hi I was hoping someone could help me. I am trying to book a package for early next year. We are a family of 8. 5 over 10, 2 under 10, one infant. We are staying at the Res. Inn Maingate for 6 nights at $269 per night, which is about $1890 after taxes. 5-day park hoppers for all of us is $1990. Add $60 for the ART and the total is $3940.

The same package booked through Disney is $4359. I've calculated it all three times and can't figure out what I'm missing. Can someone help?

Typically one reason for the discrepancy is that the Disney package quote includes taxes while room-only rates do not. It looks like you've already factored taxes into it though.

It is very common to have a package that costs MORE than doing things a la carte with Disney. Here on the boards, we typically recommend that people book their room and tickets separately to save money.

OK thanks! I like the package option because it's convenient, but I wasn't expecting that much of a difference. I'll just do it separately then. :)

When we went to Disney World I went to the Disney site and picked everything I wanted.. then took the papers to my Auto Club office and stood there while she called DW and booked it.. saving me several hundred dollars.. I think you covered it all, you just did better wthout Disneys help!

we booked it together purely for convenience... I bet we would have saved a ton but we just did it on a whim LOL I haven't looked back yet!

hehe Yeah we did a package deal before and we were happy with it. This time we're going for more days and it's going to be quite a bit more expensive so I need to pinch every penny!

I have found that I actually have found that I save $$ going with a package than doing it separately. Not sure why except that I am flying from Juneau AK.

have you tried getaway today? 269 seems so much for a night is there a reason you are staying at that hotel could be closer to the park for desert inn or others

We are staying there because we are a family of 8 and we all want to be in one room together. Our choices are limited with such a big group, and Desert Inn won't fit us all I don't think.

ETA Thanks for the idea of Getaway today, I'll check it out. :)

Ohh the desert inn will definitely fit a group of 8 in their family suites! One of the, actually sleeps 10!! They are directly across the street, so you could save the $60 ART fee and the most expensive room around your timeframe looks to be $195/night. There are two others that would work just fine for 8 people though too for $172 and $185/night. We stayed here in May with 7 people and it was wonderful! Excellent place, comfy beds, free basic breakfast and the best part was being so incredibly close (5 minute walk!!) to the main gates of DLR & DCA!

Oh, and I should add that we've also used getaway today and had great experiences with them, but now that we are better at planning, even through getaway today, we've found the packages to cost more than booking separately. Good things to know! :thumbsup2

desert inn has huge suites i think they would work and you could save money and the art price. Opps i see soem one else already said that lol no art means you save 20mins each time you want to go to hotel or dl, it is a easy walk

yw ive ehard alot good things bout desert inn I havent stayed there but its always one i look atthis time im doing quality inn 69 a night 3 nights with 4th night free. i dont think they would fit 8 ppl but i hope DI helps you out
