Howdy.

I am currently planning my honeymoon for October 2009, and have been to Florida four times before, but never without my parents planning it (the last time I went I was 16, I am now 22 and living away from home).

I actually proposed on the castle in Disneyland Paris (having long since realised that I must always share my fiance with Mickey Mouse) and we both found that the whole trip was a lot cheaper and easier to plan as a package holiday with the travel agent. Is this the same for Florida? I wonder if anyone could offer some helpful advice on this subject, because the brochures only seem to cater for either Disney accomodation or self catering villas for at least 8 people, which are both slightly beyond our preferred price range. There seem to be affordable and decent hotels online (the buena vista suites seem pretty good), but I'm a bit concerned about the whole convenience and price issues if we organise the whole things ourselves. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Cheers :thanks:

Hi and welcome to the boards!

Unless you are very lucky you will find that booking your flights, hotel and transport seperately will work out a lot cheaper. Check out travelsupermarket, I use them alot and find some bargins on there.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

All depends on time of year and what offers Tour ops have on. We do almost every trip independantly but every now and then a package is best option, for example next Xmas we have booked Virgin package £580 each. Flydrive (without car costs) was £700 or flight only is over £800.
We once booked a 3 week Virgin package for £1,600 (3 of us) in Oct. Flight only was £700 each. So saved £500 and a free hotel.
If you go independant ask lots of questions on here, someone will help and welcome to the boards.

You could always compromise by booking a fly-drive, it will give you the security of having access to the holidy reps and then book the accommodation separately.

It's not as cheap as doing everything yourslef but might be more straightforward.

If you really want a package then most companies sell non-Disney accommodation. You may have to look for Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista/international Drive holidays rather than Disney ones.

Make sure to compare fly drive to package though, last twice its been cheaper for package than flydrive for us. Don't have to use the included hotel.
