Package Drop Off at DL?

I'm planning our first visit to DL and someone mentioned to me in another post that a con about DL compared to WDW is there is no package delivery or even bag drop off at another location in DL when making purchases to pick up before you leave.

Just wanted to make sure if this was true.

Our last few visits we have stayed on property and you can have your purchases sent to your hotel to be picked up the next day (or the bell hop will bring them up to your room, too, I believe). I do seem to recall from our last trip when we didn't stay on property that you could have your purchases sent to the Newsstand outside the gates. It was insane at closing to pick them up and we ended up with not only our purchases but someone else's.

Thanks Tink208- I had a feeling the poster who said that had to be wrong because if WDW does it why wouldn't DL especially since their hotels are practically right across the street.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

actually, i do remember something about no front of the park delivery. i could be wrong, but the way i remember it is you can LEAVE purchases at the newsstand, but they aren't sent there for you. i remember this specifically because i remember people talking about how they'd get stores to hold their purchases to be picked up later.

but they may do delivery to the on site resorts.

ETA: remembering more of it now... they USED to send packages to the newsstand... then they stopped. but i think they continued with the resorts. they might have started again with the newsstand for all i know though.

just did a bit more research. the changes i talked about happened in 2002 and best i can tell, they did not re-instate it. so if you buy something from a shop, unless you're staying on site, you need to carry it somewhere.

Ah, well, that makes sense. The last time I was there and not staying on property was in 2001.

Well I'm definitely saying on property so that means they will deliver? Where do they deliver, to the hotel's gift shop?

They delivered to the bellhop's desk when I stayed at the DLH. Then you could either pick the items up the next day, or apparently have them sent up to your room by the bellhop (we just picked ours up).

Great! So long as I don't have to carry them I'm happy.

Now if your shopping in Downtown Disney will they also deliver to your hotel?

We had packaged delivered to the GCH when we stayed there no problem. And we were also told we could have them sent to the Newstand and pick them up there at the end of the day. This was not too long ago (we have AP's and have been 5 times since July) and I was told that at 2 different stores. We just carried our stuff or put it in our locker but we were offered that service. BTW, we did not stay on-site our last trip and that is when the Newsstand option was offered to us.

I want to add a caveat. We were staying at Paradise Pier in Sept, and we tried twice to have things sent to the hotel. Both times the stores said that they didn't have the form they needed to do that, and that I would need to take my purchases and the receipt to another store to do it. Well, the whole point was so that DS didn't get 'attached' to the bag, so it was out of his site and mind, and to have to leave with the bag was defeating the purpose.

In the future I'd make sure they had the necessary forms BEFORE buying stuff...

Thanks for that tip! I will keep that in mind before they ring up my purchase.

How did they not have the forms? Couldn't they call another shop to have someone bring some over? They should be well stocked with that considering all the guests that stay on property who I'm sure do not want to carry their packages.

I don't know. It was very annoying. And it was September, so it wasn't like it was peak season (it wasn't, I promise). If I were a different person I would have insisted they send someone or whatever, but I'm not that kind of person.

Made it more difficult b/c during that trip we had a brand new hat (DS's pirate hat) stolen from the bottom of the stroller, so we were NOT leaving anything in the stroller. Kept us from buying all that much!
