I have been trying to breakdown my package to figure out exactly what discount I recieved on our rooms. Does anyone know what part of the package gets taxed? Is it just the room portion or is there tax on the tickets and dining also? I know that the room tax is 12.5%. I just can not for the life of me make our numbers come out. I thought we had a 30% discount but when I work the numbers I come up with about $125 less than what I am being charged.

I have had this problem with two of my three reservations. Do you know if you opted out of the Disney travel insurance? For oour SSR trip, we couldn't get the numbers to match and that was the difference. For our September trip...the numbers are off by $30. TA and I can't figure it out. It is just what the computer "says". :confused3 We figure it is how the tax is applied...which I think they do before the discount. In other words...we think you may pay tax on the rack room rate (vs. the discounted rate). Or maybe any tax on the DDP or tickets is at a different rate. Not sure if any of that helped?!?!?!? :)

I have figured it out by figuring out what the rack rate was plus 12.5% tax. Then, I would price out the theme park tickets by themselves. I don't know if there is tax on the dining part....I haven't read anything that says there's tax on the dining plan. I've never calculated it in my figuring. You can figure out the discount by doing the math with the discounted package vs rack rate package. Is this making any sense?

There is definately tax on tickets and you dont see that on the disney site until you go to the check out. I'm not sure if Florida taxes food or not, if they do, Disney would add that tax on the dining plan for sure. I thought they did, but I can't remember.

Try booking everything separately.

Click on "room only" and put in your dates... the total at the top of the page is with tax but it will also show rack rate for each night of your stay. (Be sure to specify standard or preferred room.) From here you'll be able to calculate your discount.

Do forget to figure if trip insurance was added in.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but had a similar question...

I've made my ressie for a package, and the quote they gave me is exactly what the online quote states... so does that mean the tax is already included? On our confirmation form, its states how much we still owe, and I don't see where tax is ever mentioned. So when we check in, if we've paid off our acct, are we going to owe tax at that point?

Its added online and its added when you phone, it includes tax. If you added up your per night cost though, it'd be cheaper, because the per night costs they advertise dont include tax. It gets put in right when you select the resort you're staying. Thats why if you do room only the dollar amount will include cents, even though the per night room is always an even dollar number.

I worked the numbers all again and I came up with only $8 more than they did. I just wanted it to come out exactly the same. I guess it is the teacher in me.

It's probably some goofy thing with tax and the dinning. I know without dining I always have my calculations match exactly. At least your number came out higher ;). I noticed a quirk too, on my stay I'm getting the same rate on weekends as midweek, which isn't right and saved a few dollars. Don't tell them!

PSSST... :ssst:

For some time periods during the year, it IS the same price on weekends as it is on weekdays.

The tax on park tickets is 6.5%. I think it's the same on the dining plan.

I've never managed to get my numbers to equal WDW's exactly. I've finally reached the conclusion that if I'm within $5 to $10--depending on the amount of the room/package--I'm a happy camper! *LOL*

It's like grocery shopping--I at least like to have a ballpark figure! :)
