Pack n Play vs. Bed Rails?

we will be requesting a bed rail for my 2 year old. A Pack and play would not work for him.

I think I have weird kids. When DS12 was 3, he wanted to sleep in the PnP, so we let him.

Fast forward 8 years to when our youngest was 3.5 - even though he slept in a bed at home, he wanted to sleep in the PnP. I figured he'd try it and not like it and then he'd change his mind. Nope. He slept the whole week in the PnP. He had to sleep with his legs bent because he was too tall, but he didn't care. He slept well all week, and do did we!

And yes, the PnP is in the bathroom. We're terrible parents.

Hahahaha! We had a villa at BLT 2 years ago for a huge family trip. DDs PnP was in the laundry room!!
MIL thought we were crazy, but we knew we would all sleep better if she was in a separate room.

I say bed, no rails. My 3 older kids have all switched to a twin between 18 and 24 months. We don't use any rails. My DD fell out her first night (it's a low bed, so the fall was only about 12 inches). She fell out one other time, a few months later. My ODS and MDS both fell out once, although not immediately (a few months after they moved), and both slept right through it.

Think of the freedom of no PNP and where your DS can sleep in any bed. It's so worth it!

Just an update from the OP here! We ended up switching my almost 2.5 year old to a twin bed with rails here at home a few weeks ago and he has done GREAT! I was so worried about it but at 36 in. he definitely was over the pack n play height guidelines. So we requested bed rails for the hotel and hopefully he will be so worn out he will just fall asleep easily each night. He also is a kid that moves all around in his sleep even in his bed and he does fine. He just sleeps in awkward positions sometimes.
