Anyone out there looking to start the newest twist on P90x... P90x2. I saw a quick PR tour interview with Tony and pre-ordered the DVDs Now waiting for marathon weekend to get over and then plowing in.

From what I see the program has downward progressions like the original P90x. (I guess those are regressions). Though on the previewing of the workouts, it looks like one needs to have some P90x experience. I purchased specifically for the new ploy workouts. THey are much closer to athlete ploy workouts, exactly what I was looking for.

Oh I feel it now

Coach,

We have P90X2 and can't wait to start it! We are waiting until after the marathon though. One question I have is how to incorporate running with these intense Beachbody programs. We have done P90X, Insanity, and Asylum and know how tough these programs are on the body. I don't think running 3-4 days/week on top of P90X2 is a great idea. However, we don't want to stop running, especially since we have a Tough Mudder in March that is 12 miles and a 1/2 Marathon in May. What do you think?

I suggest taking the mid week runs back a few notches and just run. i.e. no speed work. Not sure of your speed but really think if you keep weekend runs to 2 hours max, that will get your through a half rather securely. Just start your program so one of the recovery days is on the day you want to make your long runs. I need to look more closely at the workouts but think the long run should be as far away from the Plyo as possible

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Hopefully, it will work out fine...especially since X2 has 2 rest days (so we can do the long run on one of them), where the other programs only had 1. I also don't think you do Plyocide (the big plyo workout) until phase 2 or 3. On a totally unrelated note, but since we are talking, I have one last question about the relay this weekend if you don't mind. Since this is my first 1/2, I don't know what pace to shoot for! On my long training runs, I typically average around 8:40/mile (up to 12 miles) and on shorter runs about 8:00/mile, though on a 5K, I can manage 7:30/mile. I do have a habit of going out too fast and then having to really cut back and would like to avoid that at the race this weekend, but I also don't want to sell myself short. I was thinking of trying to stay at around 8:40 or so for the first 6-7 miles and then depending on how I feel, pick up the pace a little bit...what do you think?

Thank you so much!

Depends on your goals..... Based on the info provided, a 8:10 - 8:20 pace may be in order for the half. That pace may be a gut it out pace from Captain Jack (mile 10,9) through 13.1 but is supported by your training pace of 8:40. I guess I should say that is also assuming you remained mostly aerobic on the 12 mile run... i.e. conversational. If you were running near anaerobic on the 12 miler then pull back 10 - 15 seconds and as you said, ramp it up once you hit World Drive.

Even with the A/B corral, you may need to hold up the first mile as you run into the single lane stretch at mile 1 and then through Epcot. But from mile 6 through MK, it is open road .

Thank you so much for the advice! I am running the 2nd leg of the relay, so hopefully, I won't have to worry about too much traffic. My conservative goal is to finish in under 2 hours but of course, I have quite the competitive streak and would love to push myself as hard as I can.

Just not sure how a fresh runner runs the back half of a marathon. It will be fun.

Do not let AK play with your head. The paths have all those animal foot prints which can slow you up for the almost mile of the park.

Have fun

Coach... if you don't have a Beachbody Coach, I'm one over there. CoachSuzann
Feel free to ask any questions about P90X2 :goodvibes
(Love that there's 2 days off and there's no cardio so you can do your own!)

Suzann,
Are you really a Beachbody coach? I was thinking of utilizing a coach this time around (doing first P90X 2 workout tonight) and I would love to give business to another Disney fan.

Thanks.... But one of my High School friends (yes there was was school in the 70's) is a BB Coach. He is a remarkable story. From Jr high through some time in his 40's the guy was a druggie. No kind way of putting that. His way out of the habit was through exercise and fitness. I can run circles around him at distance, but I do not think that I could keep up with hime on much of anything under an hour.

Anyway, medicine balls are on the Home gym floor. Goofy 7 this weekend and then we are firing it up.

One thing I am thinking as I review the program and well cheat a little by adding some of the work into my last strength session.... I am really thinking that I am going to work this on 6 week intervals rather than the reductional 4. It has bee a year since I really hit the body hard and I think the X2 base will throw me for the first week or two.

How awesome for your friend Coach! We are planning to start after we get back from WDW on the 14th....still have to get medicine balls though. Maybe we can all report back periodically and let each other know how it's going!

There's no cardio in this? I was thinking about trying P90X-2, but now I don't think I will. Right now I'm doing a P90X/Insanity Hybrid. Tomorrow will be the end of week one.
