My dear Aunt (nearly 80) told my mum a couple fo weeks ago that she found a lump. So far so bad...she found it when it was the size of a grape but because she "didn't want to have an operation and be an invalid" she did nothing and it is now the size of a plum. The consultant has done tests and she is having an operation to remove the breast next week.
She has become quite frail over the past 18 months and I'm concerned that the anaesthetic will be the end.
although we don't have heart issues in our family particularly.
She never married and she and my Grandad moved to our road so she could come down each day after school and play with my sister and I while mum made dinner. My DSis and I have not told the kids yet - we'll probably say she's having an op but not go into details - as they have some exams coming up and we don't want them to dwell on it until they need to.
Thanks for listening.
