P &PD for Annie! Please. Update pg 2

I'm so sorry. It's such a helpless feeling to have your pet be sick and not be able to help them or even tell them you're trying to help them. :grouphug:

I hope your vet is able to get Annie well again.

Pancreatitis was ruled out two weeks ago. The vet told me this afternoon that he is considering Addisons Disease. She has a lot of the symptoms. I called this evening and the ultrasound has been completed. Her adrenal glands are small, her heart is small (consistant with Addisons Disease) and he is awaiting the blood work that will confirm the diagnosis. I am hoping that she has it because it is managable. She will need an injection of cortisol every 28 days but she will be like new. If she has Addisons and he had taken her to surgery this morning, she may not have survived the surgery.

Wow. Lucky he knew enough not to start the surgery. Hang on to him. He sounds like a gem of a vet! Hope you get good news with the blood work.

Good wishes, Dawn, for Annie. Always so darn tough when our furbaby family is not well or feeling out of sorts. Sounds like a great vet there too. My best for Annie.

Wow, good thing they checked, Dawn. Our furbabies can put us through it, can't they....

But we love them so much it doesn't matter!

Prayers she'll be back to being Annie!

Dawn, are you in Connecticut? just wondering if your dog went to Central animal hospital. That is where my dogs go and they have done some great work. Hope all works out, is she coming home soon? I would visit my babies in the hospital at night, maybe you can do that. Prayers and pixie dust to you

Annie sees Dr. Geer at Cholchester Animal Hospital but all of the docs there are top notch and they provide excellent care. When I admitted her yesterday, the tech sat on the floor with her, talked to her like she was a person and was so sweet to Annie. I don't know if you recall the thread about the groomer paralyzing my toy poodle, Chelsea, but they fixed her too.

I'm glad Annie has good vets. It means so much when you have animal doctors that truely love animals. Unfortunately there are way too many of them out there that make you wonder why they even chose that profession. Our vet loves our dogs like his own. When Toby, our poodle who we lost back in 2002, became gravely ill, they sent him to a surgical vet out in Manakin Sabot, VA. We were so impressed with her. For the first 5-10 minutes she just sat on the floor with Toby talking to him, hugging him, rubbing him. It made us feel so much more at ease. And thanks to her, the dog they said we would have a 75% chance of losing any day lived 2 more very active years until he was 13.

Still keeping you and Annie in our prayers Dawn~ :grouphug: I SO wish they could talk!!!

I was very excited when the vet said that Annie may have Addison's Disease. Of course no one wants their dog to have a chronic illness but AD is managable with pills and injections. At 2 pm I called to get the results of the blood work. Sadly, she does not have AD and they are back to square one. Her stomach is starting to bloat and her small bowel is not working. They are considering that she may have scar tissue from her bloat of 8 years ago. He said; "We have lots of docs here and she still has us stumped". He was giving her a drug to increase bowel motility but if she doesn't improve by morning, she will have to undergo exploratory surgery. I don't know how she will do but she will not live in the shape she is in now. She is starving to death and we don't know why. She is on iv meds. I wanted to go see her but I am so conflicted. I want to see her "for me" but I am afraid that if I go, she will be upset when I leave. Right now she is comfortable. She won't be ten until October. She is a young dog....until this month. I am so, so sad.

:grouphug: Sorry to hear that your sweet furbaby is sick! :sad2: Hopefully the vets will be able to figure out soon what is wrong with her!

A lot of us have been in your shoes. We know how hard it is. I wish we could do more than just offer support. :grouphug:

Sending prayers and PD Annie's way. It sounds like she has a good group of vets with her. I hope they find out what is wrong. Take care.

Have they tried an endoscopy? When she's sedated, they can do that before starting the exploratory. It may tell them that she has something like a gastric ulcer or something else treatable.

Just bumping. Any update Dawn? How is Annie today?
