P.O.T.C. On Stranger Rides! The Missing Chapter,,Final Thoughts,, Preview Thoughts.

The other day I posted a couple of thoughts on one of the new fastpass threads,,, but after I admitted I use to gather them to use later, apparently that feaked out everybody that I "would do such a thing", and it didn't seem as if they heard my other thought concerning the new system.
So I'm going to mention it here where discerning readers are:

As time went by, more and more vacationers found out
they didn't expire, and would do what we usually did,
gather them in the morning to use later at night, after we left the park and went back for a swim.

Now, in Disney's eyes, there are multiple problems in that sentance, starting with,,,, LEFT THE PARK, meaning, we are not spending money.

But an even bigger reason is that by using this routine for later in the day or night, it means we are going to have to come back to the same park that day, THERE"S NO REASON to pay for Hoppers! Which we haven't bought for years now, and now, we are going to have to, no way I'm going to start out a day for early entry at MK on thursday and go back on thursday night when it 's packed without a bunch of fastpasses, now, thursday night we'll probably switch to Epcot.

Thank you very much

Nebo, I completely agree with you on the fast pass issue. We have always followed the same strategy as you, not to take advantage of the fast pass system, but rather because the system allowed it. We will have to adapt to the change as well. I suspect the reasons for the change do center around money. The old system was so great with allowing that much needed afternoon break.

The upcoming April/May trip sounds great. I know you guys will have a blast. We are toying with the idea of going for a long weekend so DS can experience Star Wars weekend in late May. We are trying our best to get maximum value out of the APs.

Hopefully the drive in August will be noneventful for you guys. We went last year in early August as well and we had a great time. It did rain almost every day, but it usually happened in the late afternoon. It did not negatively impact our trip at all. We are hoping for the same experience this year.

I sure am going to miss you guys until the mini TR starts.

Ah, I see the Lizzy Borden tag team mother and daughter from Indiana are still looking for more blood,,,

anyway,, I just read all 9 pages of the firestorm thread about Test Track that our beloved Jakeybake started,, it must have set a record,,, for the most posts the first day of being posted,,, there were posts coming in during the same MINUTE!,,, and then,,, it stopped.

But I really liked something Jay said near the end of the thread, and I copied it to paste here,,,, now, if I can only find it,,,, crap,,,OH, wait,,, I think here it is:

This is all based on the vague changes Disney first said concerning Test Track, when the shut down and refurb was first announced: Go , Jay

I do understand the need to clean up and revamp the queue area. That being said I just don't understand the constant need to update rides that are super popular. I guess I'm a bit of a sentimental sort but I like the familiarity that comes with riding my favorite rides. It's a nice feeling (at least for me) to return each year and have my brain be flooded with memories of prior experiences. The constant need to change seems to take away one of the very things that makes Disney special, memories!

Again I am probably on an island someplace in regards to this but I do like somethings to stay the way they are/were.

_____________________________________________

Wow, doesn't that fit into what I was saying before?

Thanks Jay,,, sometimes I can't let good lines die in obscurity once a thread goes dormant.

Hey Nebo!

Thanks so much for the shout out on your TR! Now I know I'm an honorary member of the Nebo & Smidgy Trip Report Club!

I totally forgot about starting that thread and my sentimental comment at the end. I'm glad someone out there is as sentimental as I am and understands how I feel. I'm always sad when they shut down an old attraction or restaurant (Alfredo's, sniff!!!!). It always feels like they are taking away a tiny part of me (let's keep it clean!!).

And you are dead right about that thread. It was a freaking whirlwind for about an hour or two then it totally died. I did notice that someone started a very similar thread like an hour or so after mine and that one kind of took over.

Story of my life!!

Jay

I still don't really understand the reasoning for the change, when we got fastpasses and went back to use them we just went back when we got there, never really paid a huge amount of attention of what time we got back but never really purposely saved them either. We've waited in the stand by lines and got through in the time it said we would (even got to carry the thingy they use to calculate :cool1:). It just never seemed to be a problem, but of course we've never gone in summer peak season either - perhaps it was an issue at that time :confused3.

I just want to drop in to say I am reading Jingle Bells.... And every time I want to comment I realize no one will see it. Well WOW! What a start to your Disney stay. I have heard about these tour groups from my daughter. She is "best friends" with Tigger and one day one of these tour group people hauled off and socked Tigger in the nose. Needless to say it was a painful and shocking experience. Who would do something like that? Their reputation is well deserved.
So many other things to comment on but of ourselves this is not the place. Just another fun read. Thanks.

I hope someday you and Smidgy can fulfill your dream of moving there, you deserve it.

talk about serendipity! I just a few moments ago posted on an august code watch thread about the terrible experiences we had with a brazilian tour group in july!

then I came here! but .careful! if you DARE say the country the groups are from (which is a fact) you will be called a "racist". if you complain, you are an "uber racist".

we, as americans, should be laying out the red carpet, giving up our spaces in line, cause apparently their money is better than ours.

sorry to sidetrack, enjo:y the rest of the report..:)

I am getting caught up from what seems like months away from trip reports. I just read the posting describing your trip back home. HOLY COW! and DOG and CAT! You are the man, nebo! I now question the worth of my AAA membership. I guess as long as I can loosen a lug nut myself and have a screwdriver in the car's tool kit, I'll be okay. You did a good job training "the dude" how to change a tire. My son is in the process of learning to drive and will be learning to change a tire this Saturday. I'll tell him how important it is to be able to do this because you never know when you'll get a piece of pottery stuck between the treads and have to train the AAA guy to change the tire. You did an incredible job writing up that experience like you do all your trip reports. Much love to you and smidgy! Can't wait to read about the trip with Jackson. Gonna be a fantabulous trip! pixiedust:

Now back to the current topic, whatever it is. I'll get caught up soon!

Glad you started. :woohoo:

So does anyone want to take bets on how long it will take Nebo to finish this TR? I say six months.

I ran into this quote by O kitty,,, it was right after I posted chapter one on september 26,, I believe she was being sarcastic but she wan't far off,,, the last chapter ended a little while back, so I would put it at a little over 5 months! Although it will probably be six months by the time it's sent to the mausoleum upstairs.

Oh dear, maybe you should reconsider August. So much nicer in December, really, much more pleasant!
Honestly, we just had our roof replaced from the Hurricanes in 2004, so our insurance company might not like us much if Hurricane Nebo hits! :scared1:

You know what's funny MaritaL? Since Whatsherface and I have been going back to Disney just us, no kids, since 2002, we have been there every year since then,,,, EXCEPT 2004! That year we went to Niagara Falls and then met one of our sons and his wife at Cedar Point.

"blue"]There you go, well put, Disney could have stopped it any time they wanted to, but they allowed it, I think the folks that are complaining about us that used passes late are mostly angry at themselves for not knowing how the system worked!

Yeah, well familiar with the august rains, it sounds like they are more annoying to me than to you,,,,and you are right,,,, lots of great people on this thread that we are going to miss, and you are up there.

Hey Nebo!

It was done by the time I saw it,,, but I couldn't help seeing the posts times,,,,, and,,,, it's like I always say,,,, you are only as good as your last trip report. :rotfl:

Shawn, I still think it was cuz hopper passes arent sellling like they used to,,,,, HEY,,,, have a great trip , and don't do the "drink around the world thing", nothing worse than being sick or hungover in Disney the next day.

All right Copper,,, I remember seein a famous U tube video of a kid punching out Tigger,,, you were there for that?

And doesn't that suck reading old CLOSED reports where you can't post? Ok, let's see, you are up to the Brazilians,
which means you are past the lizards bumpin' uglies at Vero Beach part,,,, and you COULDN"T post on it!

Go ahead,, you can say whatever your heart wishes here yet, while this is still open.

Hi Rozz,,, just make sure to tell him to not be in a hurry to crank up the car,,, and to break the lug nuts loose first, I have watched a guy tyr to break them loose with a car up on the jack only to have the car come crashing down.

Oh, breaking news:
We are considering driving down for our August, Todd and Kim and Jackson trip,, which of course is,,,,,
altogether now,,,,, HURRICANE SEASON!

Does history repeat itself?

not if it knows what's good for it!

I HATE hurricane season - you have no idea how much!

But just watch the weather, and if one is coming up the eastern US, just swing out to the west and then south. Surely the safer drive is worth adding a couple hundred miles to the trip.

Ok so I have lurked on this trip report and have went back and read all of the other trip reports you have written. Just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to let me live through your trips. I laugh and cry and my husband looks at me confused and I don't even bother trying to explain. Although we have never met I feel like I know you both! Again , thank you for the time you put in to your reports I can't wait for the next one!!

Hi,,,, well, I guess better late than never, glad you have enjoyed it.

By the way, we're about to pull the plug on this one, those of you who are regulars here, I will probably send out a pm when and if I start babbling after the next trip, like I said, it will have to be a real shortened trip report, but if you are not a regular poster here and you'd still like a heads up, well let me know either by pm ing me or posting here before it's closed and I will include you when I send out notices.
Or you can try and remember to look for me around May 13 or so, we get back on the ninth so that gives me a couple days to get pics in the Pbucket,,,, not to be confused with pigs in a blanket.

Oh boy, the aluminum tube of death, can't wait,,and I also can't believe we have a SIX A.M. flight time! Never flown that early.

Me, me, me :yay:

:scared1: me too ! I am almost caught up here (ya know ya missed me ok so maybe not but that's ok) Just been lurking or some may say skulking around. But please include me when you start the next one....

O O oo, me, me, me!:hyper: I would like one of those reminder/notification/thingamajigers :dance3:

BTW - We've done the 6 am flights before, love, love them. It stinks getting up at the crack of early but there is no real need to get to the airport 2 hours ahead of time because they usually aren't there anyway, if it is open then nobody else is around to create a line with. :thumbsup2

I want a PM. yes I do!

I hate 6 AM. I need somebody to wake me, else I will NOT make it. (even 8AM)

Another great trip report Nebo. I started catching up on Sunday.

Four days and eight hours of reading later and I'm finally caught up. I, literally, have not watched TV since I started reading Sunday night. Only a Nebo TR can keep my attention that long. Looking forward to the next one my friend!

Take Care,

Kyle

P.S. if you ever find yourself in the D, look me up...We can hit a Tigers - Sox game!

:sad1: Aww, I'm sad to see this TR end. There is a slight upside....a new trip for you guys is coming up soon.

Will you say, "Annnddd we're up" when you leave in the aluminum tube of death? ;)

Please send a PM. Or open a thread before you leave so we can make mischief while you are gone! ;)
