Rumor # 729:

My Downtown Disney spies recently related that the latest scuttlebut is that the Hoop De Doo Revue will move from it's current location to occupy the empty "Motion" building on the former Pleasure Island.

Rumor # 730:

Same as 729 except instead of "move" its a 'new dinner show experience'..

.. Not sure how much stock I put in this.. but at the same time, Disney Food & Beverage definitely has their eye on this space for "something" -- several high-falutin muckety-mucks were by recently to scope it out.

:confused3

The Hoop held anywhere but at Pioneer Hall will not be the same. I think that would be a huge mistake. The whole concept of these parks is Immersion into the show.
When you go to the Hoop you travel to the wildwest at Fort Wilderness. Then you go to the hoe down with good eats at the Pioneer Hall.

I totally agree. And the Revue would not work on PI. I'm wondering, though, is the amount of floor space on PI larger then Pioneer Hall? It would be typical Disney to find a bigger venue for a show so they can cram more bodies in. ie: The Very Merry Christmas party. { I think that's what it is, or was, called} at the CR. We went for 4 years in a row, and during the 4th years, they crammed so many more tables in the room, and opened up the walls to expand the area even further, that a good amount of people, including us, were so far away, that we couldn't see anything!

I'd believe 730 before I'd believe 729.

I hear that Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is still looking for a new Orlando location. ;)

I can totally believe this, and here's why.

#1 Pioneer Hall is old, needs MAJOR work, it's small, and is an ADA nightmare!

#2 Transportation to Pioneer Hall is a mess, many people miss their reservation, or are late because of this.

3. The Motion building is centrally located with better transportation, is relatively new, and already has a kitchen, a little remodeling and it would be just a tad larger than the current venue.

#4. Some of the CM's who work the Hoop are getting a little.....um old. Disney cant ask them to leave their jobs, but if they open a new venue this lets Disney hire all new people. Think the old Main Street Marching Band. Disney got rid of it, and all the CM's, created the Main Street Philharmonic, and hired all new "younger" people.

The only downside I can see is the atmosphere outside the building is not the same. But quite frankly, what does that matter? It's a dinner show, you only need two things, dinner, and a show.

Quite an interesting rumor though, considering everything that must be going on in the planning stages of the "new PI".

So, because CMs are old, they should be replaced?

Some of these servers should have moved on from these jobs years (ie: 15+) ago.. but they haven't because it's so lucrative with very little downside or 'greater responsibility' .. beyond that of a server. They are stuck in a rut.

This may work out to be Disney's gentle nudge onward with their careers, either with Disney.. or without.

OK, so you are saying these "elder" CMs should go work some where else other then Disney, perhaps?

I agree that the current venue for Hoop being an ADA nightmare. I am friends with many people that have kids that are in wheelchairs or have other mobility issues. The ones that have gone have said that it was a great experience, except for everything involving mobility or transportation in getting there or leaving there.

And I totally agree about server apathy at Hoop and the Luau. Some of those servers have been there too long and are not invested in providing good service at all. Those built in gratuities are not very motivational. While I do not wish anyone a lay off or firing, I do feel that working for your wages is important, especially in the service industry.

Moving Hoop to Motion sounds like a great idea to me.

The way to properly deal with employee performance issues is through Performance Management. You don't pack up the show, move it someplace else, change the name and then rehire new, younger workers. That's blatant age discrimination and against Federal (and State) law.

Moving the show for profit reasons is one thing but if existing employees are not given first crack at the new venue, I'm sure there are numerous enterprising attorneys out there that can help rectify the situation.

This rumor kind of goes against the conventional thinking that everything on PI is going to be outsourced. Now if Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede moves into Motion and takes over the show, they certainly have the right to hire whoever they want.

I certainly hope rumor 729 is false! Yes pioneer hall needs to be updated but moving the show to the motion building would kill it very quickly. The entire experience with change drastically and people wouldn't get the feeling of being in the wilderness. Of course then again what has Disney done recently that makes sense? If they want to kill the show move it to the motion building, if they really care about it and want to enhance it renovate pioneer hall. It would be better to shut it down while the renovations were done than to move it even temporarily to the motion building.

Now rumors 730 does make some sense since the building already has kitchen facilities. There are certainly many options available to Disney for a dinner show that could be interesting.

Disney does not build timeshares, it's "vacation ownership!":rotfl2:

Yes, and there is a difference. If you own a timeshare you actually own something and don't have to give it back at the end of a period of time. With vacation ownership you actually owned nothing, you only have the right to use something for a period of time. Not saying one is better than the other but the timeshare certainly has an financial advantage!

I'd be really sad if they moved Hoop-de-do out of pioneer hall! I love heading over to FW for the show and dinner, it gives it even more of a special event feeling! Oh well, there has been nothing but a string of bad decisions coming out of Disney lately, so this really wouldn't suprise me all that much.

I agree. Part of what makes Hoop special is its setting. I hope it stays where it is.

It would be nice to see Disney keep Hoop and come up with a whole new dinner show in the new location.

But let's say that Hoop does move.........What would become of Pioneer Hall? Could it be a character meal location? The Mickey BBQ is already over at the Fort, but I guess they could do another character meal. :confused3

I think this is seniority at work in a union environment. People forget that the House of Mouse has 14 unions in place. Collective bargaining agreements allow for those with the most seniority remain in their occupational groups for as long as they like (meaning until the bid into other jobs).
