Has anyone seen these at Disney or Universal?? If yes, Where?? You buy the "live" oyster, they open it, and there is always a pearl inside...you can just keep the pearl or you can get it set into jewelery

We did this in October for our neice. We visited the outdoor cart on the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club. I've heard you can do this in the Japan pavillion in Epcot, too. We did not get the pearl set and while I can't remember exactly how much it cost, I'm pretty sure it was in the $15-18 range.

We did this in Japan at Epcot and I got a blue/silver pearl. The ticket was 12.99 I think and then I had it set on a ring for about 30 bucks.

We saw this done in Japan at Epcot. It was quite a show with lots of fanfare for the recipient of the pearl. It was a little girl and she was grinning ear to ear as the Japanese CM displayed her treasure to all the people surrounding and watching. Lots of fun.

We did this with our daughter at BC in January- she's 21! She loved it! They tell you how pearls are made and then you give birth to you pearl. It's all very fun and cute. I think we might make this a tradition with grand children (when they come along :) )

Hello
We did this at downtown disney, you can keep the pearl and not purchase anything take it home and just keep it like that, otherwise you can get a setting for a ring, earrings, necklace, bracelet etc. some can be very expensive some are reasonably priced. It cost 14.95 just to get the oyster and open it up, then the rest is up to you. We purchased a beautiful 14k necklace to set the pearl in and i gave it to my grandmother for mothers day, i took pictures the whole time thru , i took a picture when we picked the oyster a pic when we openend it , then a picture of the oyster , then another picture when he set it in the necklace then a picture of me holding it. and i made a small scrap page for my grandmother and gave that to her along with the necklace, so it had a little bit more meaning. She went crazy over it , to this day when ever anyone asks her about her necklace she tells them the WHOLE story.
It really is fun,
enjoy

They used to have this at Typhoon Lagoon too.

My girls and I have done this a couple of times in Japan in EPCOT. It is so much fun for all of us. They bang the gong and make a big to-do about it. My littlest daughter picked a JUMBO pink pearl - it is gorgeous! It isn't expensive and they have sterling silver settings that you can choose that are very reasonably priced.

I did this a few years ago at the stand in front of the Beach Club, but we get a kick out of the big deal they make out of it in Japan. We will do it again in about a week and a half! :goodvibes

It makes a neat souvenier.

Have fun!!

I recently saw a guy buy one at the store in the Japan pavillion. He wasn't real happy when they opened it up. They called it a twin. It was really a badly formed pearl.

My DS wanted to do this but he wanted to keep the shell. The ones you open there they won't let you take the shell because of what it's cleaned with, something about it being biohazard. Well the place at DTD had one in a can that you can purchase and take home. My DS was thrilled. When we came home from our trip he opened it and had a perfectly round off-white pearl. He keeps it in the shell laying on a piece of silk. The silk keeps it from getting ruined/bad. Your bodies oils is what keeps a pearl looking nice. Oh the cost to take one with you is the same as if you opened it right there.

We did this in the Japan area. I think the pearl was 13.99. My husband picked the smallest oyster in the tank. When the girl opened it, there were two perfectly matched pearls inside. The girl beat the drum and shouted to everyone that we had twins. I had them made into earrings, I think the setting was 15.00 for them to set them into little dangle earrings.

I love to do this too! Also wanted to add that I believe if you open an oyster and there is no pearl, you can pick another oyster.

I did this in Epcot! It was so much fun. I got twins also and they are both a perfect 6 and 1/4 in size. The lady that was opening them made such a big deal about them. I'm taking them back with me so I can get them set. A ring for my dd(4)(for when she gets older) and pendent for me.

QVC sold these years back....you opened the pearl and got a diiferent color like white, cream, coral, black and they all meant something different, then you would put it in the necklace that came with it (it was like a little gold cage that opened) they were $20.00. Then JC Penney sold them the next year and they were a lot less.

The Japan pavilion is a little more expensive than downtown disney. We get one every time we go there for keepsake. However this past time in July, the lady was a little rude because we told her we did not want to make it into jewelry. She refused to measure it to let us know the "worth".

They claim you should make it into jewelry because the pearl will get lousy just sitting there. You have to take the pearl out every now and then and move it around in your hand.

This is a bit off topic - but if you like the pearl thing, you might also like Universal's coin press. At IOA, they have a place where they will press a custom coin for you. It isn't cheap, but the designs are really cool, the press is really cool, and they will also put it on a cord for you. Plus the guys who were working there were really entertaining.

My DD must have the "expensive" one! She wanted to open the oyster at DTD so we let her and she had it set in a gold dolphin pendant that she placed on her own gold chain. The total cost was just over $120.00. I'm glad to know there are less expensive settings.

I've done this in Las Vegas, hawaii and at the Beach Club location.

I picked a nice size white pearl for my mom 2 years ago and she had it set in a ring. In Vegas I picked a black pearl for my aunt. A lady standing there asked me to pick one for her (like I knew there was black pearl inside  ). So I picked and she got a rose colored pearl. She was very happy. I felt like a world class oyster picker :teeth:

I might try again in 3 weeks when I'm there. It's always a lot of fun!

We did this with our 2 daughters in the Japan Pavilion. They had a ball. We had each of their pearls set in a simple sterling silver setting and purchased a silver chain for each, also. We only spent about $65.00 and the kids had a great deal of fun. They talk about it all the time.

I LOVE DIS

I had no idea you could do this......thanks for the info....I will definately do this sounds like so much fun.
