This has nothing to do with DW but I thought someone on this board could answer some questions.

My mil just came home from the hospital/rehab stay. Before she went in she was on oxygen only at night. Now she is on it pretty much 24/7.

Before this stay we were not allowed to use the oven since she was on oxygen. Now that she is on oxygen all the time we are not allowed to to use the stove top. She does not come into the kitchen so we were wondering about this.

Can anyone clarify this?

My daughter s doctor said keep 3 feet from heat source/open flames. I've known others who do 6 feet. If she's not in the kitchen, you can use the oven

Do you have a gas stove?
That might be a concern because even if it is off, there is still the pilot flame. I agree with the other poster about distance.

I would ask the oxygen supplier for guidance - when I was a home care nurse, we sometimes had doctors or hospital health care workers give advice that was not what the supplier recommended. I had patients who were home with oxygen and no one was directed not to have anyone use the oven or stovetop, just the person with oxygen to keep their distance.

Thanks for the answers. We were just wondering. We are not going to questions sil who lives at the house. It is just one more thing to think about when I make Thanksgiving dinner in a couple of weeks. I have been in the habit of cooking the meal at my house, packing it in cookers to keep warm and/or crockpots and then pretty much just maybe reheating in the micro or on the stovetop. I will make it happen I usually do. Then I get to add to it for Christmas
