Owning at Multiple Resorts

Mine are NOT the same use year. I don't really understand the need to have them the same. I use them separately, and have never had a problem keeping track.

My use years are Feb and April..... maybe if they are too different it can become confusing. :confused3

Like everything in life, the more you have, the more work you create for yourself.

It's not just you making a mistake that you have to worry about, it's Disney.

What happens when you don't have enough points from your Feb contract and you also need to use points from your April contract?

I agree with your statement about the more you have..... I think people with more than 2 contracts probably create the necessity to have same (or at least similar) use years.

Also.... For my December short trip (3 days) I took 2 from my BWV and one from my BLT contract.
Not only do I have 2 use years but they are under separate membership numbers..... because they are not deeded the same. My reservation needed to be linked, but it wasn't really a big deal.

I haven't run into a problem yet, but have treated these 2 contracts as completely separate.
I also have 300 BLT points which makes it less likely that I would need to pull from the BWV contract, or I just borrow from the following year.

I don't think you meant to type this....I think that is 150BWV if I follow your threads correctly.

Anyway we are no where close to even with ours. We just added on to our BWV contract, so it has a more comfortable amount now. It was 160, but just added on another 75 pt contract, so now that one is 235, but I've passed ROFR, but not closed yet. I only own 100 BLT, but no desire to add on again there. I'm fine with banking or borrowing there. But I've got a super-size SSR contract that I use for my slower times of the year. So I'm at 885 pts total now......:scared1: How did that happen? I guess I had addonitis too many times!

Yes, that is correct! 180 at BLT and 150 at BWV!!!

For those of you who own at mutiple resorts, are your contracts the same use year? I am looking at adding on at another resort through resale, but really don't think I need the same use year as my current contract. Is there a reason I should look for the same use year? Or is it just easier to keep track of?:confused3

My contracts are different UY's and thus two different memberships. But, the reason we went with 150 BWV instead of the 100 we were thinking about was to make up for the different UY.

We too plan to use the contracts for only certain things which should make things easier to manage.

We went with the same use year for our two resorts. That way we can use the points from both resorts at the 7 month mark for one reservation without any hassles. And some years you just end up with a few left over points that are already banked and will expire unless you combine with our other points. Also to me it's easier to remember one date for banking our points.

I have 160 at AKV and 100 at BLT. I was going to buy more in BLT but decided not to. I have the same Feb UY for both and its convenient for me. I now do split stays when I go.

We found it just easier to keep track of our banking windows with having the same UY.

It does give you the flexable to book at more resorts with the 11 month window.

We have the same September UY at both of our resorts. That was a deal breaker for me when looking for another contract to purchase. I didn't want a new member number and I wanted to keep it easy. I waited until I found a VWL contract that fit my expectations: use year, point amount, and $$ per point.

No, it doesn't because you only have the 11 month window in the resort the points are from.

If I have 100 BLT and 100 AKV my 11 month window at either resort only has 100 points available.
You cannot combine at 11 months and book AKV for 200 points.

What if you had 2 contracts at different resorts- could you use your yearly transfer to combine them and use all points at one of the resorts at the 11 month mark?

I'm trying to figure out whether to buy 2 different contracts or 1.

Also- if you buy resale you can still use at Aulani, right?

No you can not combine them at 11 months, if you could, people would buy 25 points at the expensive resort and 150 at the cheapest.

Yes currently you can book at Aulani at 7 months.

to repeat:

there is no way to use pts from a contract at resort A (OKW, for example) at resort B (BLT, for example) at 11 months out.

Also- if you buy resale you can still use at Aulani, right?

aulani, HHI and vero beach are DVC resorts. you can trade resale pts within the DVC system at 7 months out and you can still trade out resale pts for other timeshares through RCI.

If you have 100 at AKL and 100 at BLT you can use 100 AKL from use year 2011, and borrow 100 AKL from use year 2012 and use 200 at AKL in 2011. The 100 BLT could be banked and then in 2012 have 100 BLT from 2011 and 100 BLT from 2012 which you could use in 2012. This type of banking/borrowing can do what it seems you want to.

We own 100 points at AKV and 50 points at HHI. Here's how our plan works out...

Year #1: June trip in a 1BR value at AKV for Su-Th for 130 points (use 100 AKV current and borrow 30 AKV; no HHI points available)

Year #2: April trip in a 1BR value at AKV for Sun-Th for 160 points (use 70 current AKV and borrow 90 AKV; bank 50 HHI points)

Year #3: April trip to HHI in a 1BR for Su-Th for 135 points (use 50 banked HHI, 50 current HHI and borrow 35 HHI points)

Obviously, there are a lot of other options we have (other resorts, split stays between studios and 1BR's, etc), but I am very comfortable with the way our points are divided. We have a cushion of 10-15 points in each plan so we can shift our dates to include a weekend night if needed, and we're prepared if there is another reallocation. Since there are only 10 value 1BR's at AKV and only 21 1BR's at HHI, we will eventually need the home resort booking window at both. We lucked out this past April and got a 1BR at HHI for spring break at 7 months, but I think that was a total fluke. Easter being later in the month probably helped us out.

On a side note, I leave in just over 2 weeks for my BLT/BWV stay using my HHI points! (50 banked HHI + 50 current HHI + 6 borrowed AKV = 2 nights in a LV studio at BLT + 3 nights in a standard 1BR at BWV:teacher:)

We love HH and want the 11 month option, but also wanted to own at a resort IN orlando for the trade value.

From 1997 to 2011 we got by wiith 170 OKW points having multiple trips about every 3 years by banking year 1 and borrowing year 3 to go in year 2.

We moved to the NW and airfare for the family was high. We ended up doing many exchanges and spent our points at a few places no longer on the concierge list (Grand Hotel Mackinaw Island), Whistler, Grand Californian before the DVC villas.

We even cruised to Alaska this past May (504 points). And we were hooked on cruising so decided to add more points.

So now we own at BLT as well. Same use year.

We are planning a cruise park combo.
A few days before to adjust to the time change at OKW in a studio. Hitting the pool and DTD. Exploring anything by the transportation from there.

Then cruise. (points for adults and cash for child- not sure why, just another DVC member told us this was the best way to do it)

Then BLT in a 1 bedroom for a week checking out Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

To the OP-- we own multiple contracts/home resorts. I wouldn't recommend it if you consistently plan on booking larger villas for longer stays since you can't combine your points at the 11 month mark. It works for us because our trips tend to be only for 3 or 4 nights each time. It's really fun to have multiple home resorts...it makes that whole 7 month mark thing a lot less stressful.

We bought a second contract at SSR because we really enjoy the resort. We already had enough points at AKV for a 5 night stay in a 2 bedroom for most of the year. Since we really enjoy SSR and like the treehouses we added on enough points for 2 -3 nights in a two bedroom so we can now travel to WDW and at least do a split stay between our home resorts and be in WDW for 7 or 8 days! I'm a major reservation changer so I doubt we'll follow that plan year after year though :goodvibes

sidebar...when we bought in 2008 we thought we had the perfect amount of points. HAD I KNOWN that DVC would reallocate the point charts I would have bought more points from the start. :sad2:
