Owners Locker... what do you keep in yours?

Hi Guys,
We just got back... and we are really thinking about Owners Locker but not sure how much we can keep in it... What do you keep in yours? Are you allwed to keep food and drinks?

I think it would really make our trip more like home with the little things we don't want to pack.

You can keep pretty much whatever you'd like in it, provided it fits, and won't cause a mess - i.e. if you store something liquid, be sure the lid closes tightly. Unless John & Brian turn your locker completely upside down, which I doubt, it won't make a mess in their warehouse, but rather on whatever else you're storing! Go ahead and store all the non-perishables you can fit, if that's your desired use for it.

We have 2 lockers now (our 2nd will be filled next weekend when we head down. THe first is currently filled with all kinds of stuff that makes our vacations a) easier and b) more home-like. Some examples of what we have in there are:

* a quick heating electric water kettle
* a large griddle for pancakes
* an air mattress & sheets for when we aren't staying in a villa that has bedding for 5
* a Brita water pitcher
* tea bags & sugar for my wife's daily fix
* crayons, colored pencils & paper for our kids to draw, create, etc
* card games
* a power strip to corral & control all those chargers (cell phone, camcorder, etc)
* various non-perishables & other items that we know will be used before their sell by/expiration date like salt & pepper, PAM cooking spray, boxed
pancake mix, muffin mixes, various spices & other stuff we'll need for some easy meals in-room
* first aid kit
* rain ponchos
* sweatshirts
* scissors
* night lights
* sewing kit
* full bottles of shampoo & conditioner
* laundry detergent, dryer sheets, stain remover spray
* and more....

The ideas really are endless. On the OL site there are some boards and sample lists there of stuff that people have stored

And in my mind, spreading the cost of the locker over the full year, the cost is barely over $8 per month to keep all of that stuff & more in Florida ready & waiting whenever we need it. $8/month is not that big of a deal to me - even $16 for 2 isn't that bad when I compare it to what we don't need to worry about each trip now. Our locker has made it so that we pack a lot less. Our 2nd locker will make it so we can reduce even further. No extra baggage fees - and even just a carry-on each if we do it just right. With a family of 5, I say the less to bring the better!!

Here is a partial list of what I have in my OL:

*Four days worth of clothing (it was nice to go for a week and only bring a carry on in May)
*A light jacket
*Two pairs of sneakers and a pair of sandals
*Toiletries (full sized bottles) and hairbrushes
*Laundry detergent
*Full sized hair dryer
*Ponchos and small umbrella
*Spare glasses and sunglasses (nice to know they are there if something happens to my regular ones)
*Baseball hat
*Sling backpack
*First aid kit
*Extention cord
*Framed picture of my nieces and nephews

Those are just some of the things I can think of off the top of my head, but I know there is more. I'm thinking about leaving a iHome to use with my iPod in there as well.

I dug up a previous post about my Locker contents. Yes, you can keep just about anything in your locker, but remember:

• If you pack food, make sure it's non-perishable and packaged as securely as possible.
• For beverages, pack things around them, especially items in glass bottles, to minimize the chance of breakage. John, Brian and the Locker crew treat Lockers well, but you never know what can happen, and Bell Services might not be as easy on them.

Below is a previous post...I bookmarked it since it comes up a lot. And I'm glad it came up because when I was looking over the list, I remembered I need to toss a pencil sharpener in on our next trip! (We don't go anywhere without pencils and a small notebook for my son to draw with - his favorite activity.)

We have 2 Lockers and they are full of all kinds of stuff (I bolded the things that really help us out or make our stays at "home" more comfortable). I keep track of inventory in an Excel spreadsheet. One tab is the inventory, one tab is the shopping list. If I use up something in the inventory and need to replace it, I copy it to the shopping list. Before each trip, I review the list and if there are things I can't get on my grocery stop after arriving, I'll buy ahead of time and bring them with me. Some other people keep things we don't, like wine glasses, a vase for flowers, bathrobe, pillows, air mattresses, framed photos, etc. We certainly don't use every item for every trip, but it's good to know it's there and makes packing a lot easier! Plus there's no need for us to take a lot of liquids, so we can more easily travel with carry-on only when we want.

Tara has got some kind of list for her lockers! We only have 1 locker and my list has about 120 things on it...

If I know we are going back within about 3 months or so then I'll leave unopened snacks, coffee, extra bottled water or Gatorades. I stocked ours with some Captain Morgan & wine 'cuz I know those items will keep.

We keep many of the same items that Tara mentioned as well (already have a pencil sharpener)....

Always glad to help! When I was getting ready to stock my first Locker, reading other people's lists was such a big help, so I'm just 'giving back'!

I didn't realize I never added the May photos, so I'm uploading those now. Because I know how important beer is I thought I'd mention I stowed one Fosters Oil Can and one bottle of Corona in December and retrieved them last week. They survived just fine I'll also chime in that having some clothing stored is a plus because you can pack really light

Awesome list Tara. I just finished updating our "new" inventory based on what was inside the box that UPS picked up yesterday morning to ship down ahead of us for our 2nd locker. Between the 2 lockers, our combined list is very similar to yours...but you've also given me a few additional suggestions! Our first box has 72 items in it... and the new box will have another 69.... but to paraphrase the HM's Ghost Host... there's always room for some more! Before we fly on Friday I'm sure we'll end up with a few more things to take along to keep there.

This sounds awesome! Right now we travel once a year, and drive, so DH doesn't think it is worth it. I hope after our first DVC stay at WDW in June, he'll change his mind. (He doesn't have to do any of the packing, so of course it's not worth it to him. ) I think the extras for studios would be a huge help!

I wouldn't try to talk anyone out of getting an OL,but if you have plenty of room in the car, the benefits of the OL are perhaps not as great. If space is in short supply in your vehicle, then def. check it out.
