Owner's Locker - lock question

I have trouble figuring out how to use the locks that are provided with my Owner's Locker. I picked up some 11 inch Nylon Cable Ties at the Dollar Store (pack of 30 for a buck). Do you guys think these would work? I know how to use them. If I have nail clippers in my carry-on bag, I can use those to clip the tie open when I arrive at the hotel.

I'm not worried about somebody getting into my Owner's Locker and stealing from it. I'm worried about the lid falling off.

I know I can bring my own lock, but then I might forget the combination or the key.

Here's a picture showing one the way it comes, and one looped closed. You can make the loop smaller. It seems pretty tight once you've looped it.

We always get confused when putting the locks back on! We usually mess up one by doing it backwards or something. I do t think there is anything specific on the lock tags so I don't see why any other kind of thing wouldn't work. I can't really see your photo though. Usually they put one or a few extra fasteners in the sleeve so we've always had enough anyway.

I don't understand, the lock is a cable tie type of seal. You twist the tab to open it and the serial numbers tell you if anyone has opened it.

Does it have numbers on it? I couldn't remember. How would that tell you whether someone opened it? Am I supposed to remember the numbers on my next trip? There is like a front and a back or a right way and wrong way to put them on the box though.

I'm also confused - what is provided is essentially the same thing. It is possible to reverse it and get it so it doesn't hold but if you do that just flip it. And it has the numbers so you could know if someone opened it although all I hope for is for them to keep the lid from exploding off! :rotfl:

I do know I am happy they do provide a couple extra's as more than once I've thought I had everything back in, sealed it up and then found an item I forgot to put back in.

Like most other things these days the easiest way would be to take a picture of them on your phone if you had a concern. Or you could write it down and store it in your locker to reference when you opened it up.

Good point. Not a concern for me though.

Okay, so maybe you guys are more talented than me. I can never get the Owner's Locker locks to work right. The stick part doesn't ever seem to want to slide through the hole part and "lock." My sister-in-law tried to help me last time, and she had trouble, too.

The Dollar Store ties are easier to use.

I'm not worried about someone breaking into my locker -- I just stress about getting the locks to work at the end of my trip. I want to make sure the lid doesn't fall off when the locker is being moved.

Nope - not more talented. There is a direction it won't hold and one that it will so just turn it over and try again. It will lock. And with no difference than the other zip ties you are looking at. I know cause I've done it the other way that it slides too but the last couple of trips I seem to be remembering which is the right way and getting it the first time. :thumbsup2 In a pinch just ask the Bell Man who comes up to get it. Not saying that's where we had it confirmed that it makes a difference which way it goes on but they are pretty good with them. lol

I record the seal numbers and my room number in the notes section of my phone, that way I can find my way back to my room and when I open our locker on our next trip, all I have to do is check my notes.
