Overwhelming smells at Fairfield Inn

Last week we tried to stay at the FFI because of all the great reviews here.
Parking and check-in went fine but when we opened our room door, we were immediately overwhelmed by the smell of disinfectant or some time of air freshner. First I thought maybe the room just needed some airing out after cleaning so we left the window open while we went to dinner. After returning the smell was still there. It was so bad all of us got a headaches and dry throats. Debated for a while about sticking it out there but came to realize I could not handle 3 days of breathing the fumes.

Off to the the front desk to ask about the problem. Was told we could have another room but was told all rooms are cleaned the same way. It was getting late so decided not to waste any more time at the FFI and just get a room at our usual hotel which turned out great again. The folks at the FFI was kind to not change me for our 3 hour stay.

Our room as 317. Anyone else ever experience this at the FFI?

I just stayed at FFI for the first time (end of Nov). We did not have that experience, thank goodness, because I am VERY sensitive to chemical smells. I suspect that there was a spill or something in your room that housekeeping tried to clean up. The best idea might have been to check another room and see if it had the same smell. My guess is it would have been fine.

I stayed there the week before Christmas and didn't have any issues. Glad to hear they were nice about not charging you.

Sometimes very powerful cleaners must be used, so as to mask the smell of death. Florida hotels are especially notorious for tourists being found dead in their hotel room. Am not joking about this at all, either. I say, it is good that you did not stay in that room. For chemicals can make you sick, sooner or later.

I've never stayed here but what you describe is what I've experiences everytime walking through the Venetian in Vegas. They overload the scents there, maybe to combat cigarette smoke.
And.....Abercrombie & Hollister! :rotfl: I tell my DD we have to shop online because going inside gives me a raging headache everytime!

The smell of the Venetian literally gives me a headache as soon as I walk through the doors. I am a Vegas local and will do just about anything to avoid the Venetian and it's sister resort, the Palazzo. On the other hand, New York New York is one of my favorite hotels, partially due to the yummy apple scent that greets you every time you walk in.

I stayed there for five days in August with DBF. I don't recall any weird/strong smells in our room though. I am sorry that FFI did not work out for you but am glad that you didn't get charged for your short stay.

Thanks for the feedback on FFI. I feel better knowing that perhaps this was an isolated incident or something unique with room 317. We'll consider FFI again next we are off to DL.
