Overwhelmed by water gardens

I have been to 4 different places looking at water garden supplies, and I am soooo confused. I bought Water Garden magazine, and that was good. I was originally thinking a small 6' X 10' pond with a small stream, and waterfall, now I am up to 3 ponds, two waterfalls, and streams between all of them, with an island in the middle of the biggest pond. My problem now is if I should go with pre-formed, or a liner.

Is your house going to be on the island, Coach Rick? ;) :)

I only have an over-flowing jug, water feature, but some of the Buds do have ponds, hopefully they will help you out with some info.

In the meantime, I'm posting a link to a thread that Amid Chaos started in January. It's about a pond, and we were fortunate to have the builder, getdavo, join us on her thread. I think you might find it very interesting! :)

A Beautiful Pond

DH was willing to buy me a pond "kit" at Sam's Club if I wanted it. It was 5 feet by something and had a water fallish-stream-rapid type of thing at one end. It was preformed and had different levels for different plants. It seemed perfect, all inclusive. I also had what I thought would be the perfect spot for it and started to get very excited on this thought.

Then I started doing some reading and found out the area should be away from overhanging trees and in a sunny location. No pond for me. .... :(

Good luck in this venture, Coach Rick. Definitely keep us posted.

I said a pond, and that would make it a moat, wouldn't it?

Just think.....you're a COACH.....a moat would make you a KING!!!

LOL LOL LOL LOL

I have no water features in my garden except for a hose. I just had to get that in.....:teeth:

Sounds like your hooked on ponding now where to begin.

My feelings are to use a heavy gauge liner you can get the shape and design you want, pre-formed pools are great but you need to work around their form. Create your own design.

Here is a great web site:
Watergardening

Please don't become too hooked on this site and forget us here. The more you learn the better off you'll be in the long run.

Thanks Mamu. That board is great. Oh boy this is going to be fun. As a school teacher I really need a project like this to keep me busy during the summer. I can't wait to get started, but like every other project, planning is essential, so restraint is important.
