Coming from central PA in June. It's going to take two days so can anyone give me any suggestions to stop for the night at a half decent campground on the way down? Thanks.

Green Acres in SC, We also stayed at the Koa at junction of 81 and 77. Both are nice for an overnight stop. We are out of NEPA.

Your route will dictate where to stop. I will make a recommendation of one place to avoid at all costs. Santee Lakes CG place was a horror show. Wife says it looks like PREPPERVILLE Roadways are poorly marked site was on a 10 to 12 angle site marker in the dark near impossible to locate in the dark. Grey hookup posts with black lettering

OMG, we were coming home from Disney years ago and stopped at Santee Lakes. We paid for an overnight, drove to our campsite, turned around, got our money back, and left. The only campground we were ever in that screamed-you are entering the TWILIGHT ZONE. HUGE bugs were hitting our rv ( I kid you not), and the entire place was filled with scary people. Also, there was a sign posted that said ( I couldn't make this stuff up)- beware of the ants. YIKES!!!

Like you we had prepaid and since it was a lot later than we expected when we got there we stayed. As scary as the place was in the dark it was worse in the mourning. By 8 am we out of there faster you can shake a stick. Between garbage about the place and number of permanent residences that looked like rejects from a post Katrina refugee camp we couldn't wait to leave.
My Wife wrote to GS and told them about conditions we found and and they need to inspect and re-evalueate their relationship GS no longer lists them as an affiliate or private CG

We've stayed at palmetto shores and liked that one. Going to try another one on our next trip...get a little closer to Savannah.

We've looked at that. For some reason that stretch of road always seems to have issues and so we are trying to avoid that by driving it in the morning instead of in the afternoon. I don't know what it is with that part of 95 but every time we've driven it we've had stop and go traffic.

I'll echo the comment above, New Green Acres Campground in Walterboro South Carolina (at I-95 - Exit 53) is a great spot for an overnight stay. Easy in and out and extra-long sites.
The KOA at Wytheville Virginia (I-81 - Exit 77) is great too.
We have used them both many times.

We were going to stop and stay at the Wythville KOA on our way from NY this past April but we made good time and Decided to push a little further. We ended up staying at the Fancy Gap KOA which is about 40 minutes down 77 from 81. The campground is very well kept and only about 5 minutes off 77. We will probably stay there again next trip.

@DisneyinPA What route are you taking down? What time of day do you expect to depart and how far are you looking to get before pulling over?

Ditto on Green Acres in Walterboro, SC. We always get there after the office is closed, so we pick out a spot and drop a check in the slot at the office. Never had any problems there.

We have stayed at new green acres off exit 53 in SC, and Point South KOA exit 33 in SC. Both are great overnights in my book, though Point South is a little more cost, the staff is amazing. Last trip we left the evening before to avoid Friday morning rush hour, took ourselves down south of Richmond and made it to St. Mary's KOA in great time exit 1 in GA. I would not mind doing that again, even if I went not as far south the first night.

It really does depend on your route and when you think youll need to stop for a rest.
