We are driving to Orlando for our trip. We were thinking about stopping in Valdosta, GA (or somewhere near there off I-75) to spend the night. Does anyone have any recommendations for a CHEAP hotel in or around that area? Cleanliness and safety are a must! ;)

You may want to post this on the transportation board. You'll probably get more answers over there.

When we stopped overnight on the way to Orlando, we always just got one of those hotel discount books from the rest areas and found one there. I finally convinced DH that it was too much trouble to drag into a hotel for the night and now we just drive straight through.

We stayed at a Jameson Inn (chain along the way - you will see many of them off I-75). It was very inexpensive and quite nice. It was me, my husband, my 4 year old, and my infant and I couldn't have felt more safe. They also had a nice little continental breakfast. We paid $54 total for one night. I wish I could remember the town...I do know it was about 1.5 hours south of Atlanta right off I-75.

I've stayed in that one. It is in Macon on the bypass.

from ga to orlando - you can drive it - probably easier than you think.

that say right now - NO - the southern area is torn up pretty good - but that is only temporary - it will be back to normal (and even better - with those 2 lanes on each side gone and 3 lanes like the rest of I75 there)

where are you in Ga - my brother is south of atl - stockbridge - taking my other brother there (from St Augustine) went up I95 to Savannah, Ga and did I16 instead of I75 - now if I75 was in working order using I16 route would take longer.

but since I75 is being worked on - major - this route was shorter.

besides for an Interstate 16 is about as dead as you can get.
