currently listening (no choice of mine) to a renter explaining to a seat mate on DME how thrilled he was to rent off of a member here and is already planning to rent again. Goes on to say that one day they returned to their Poly studio to find some groceries that weren’t theirs - Called Bell Desk who quickly came to remedy the situation as the real owners of the items came into the hall simultaneously and proceeded to “reem” the Bellman pretty hard.

Anyway, the renter called down to complain about the inconvenience and received $200 credit for the luau. The renter then says, “I wonder what they gave the other guy if they gave us $200? And we didn’t make a big deal; it was a minor inconvenience but we thought we should tell them and if they give us something well ok.”

I’ve seen some people on here mad that they didn’t feel they were credited enough for things, some things that seem bigger than this. $200 because you came back to someone’s groceries in your room? Well, Poly Dues payers, you’ll be glad to know he’s pleased with it anyway. ...

Sigh - and last trip I spent over an hour at the BC/BCV front desk because they managed to check me out of my continuing stay while looking to see if I was checked in. :sad2: What was I offered? Nada.

I've seen it reported recently that $200 is the standard starting point. Seems unreasonable in this situation but then again I've seen lots of reports of unreasonable returns like the person who complained about the view at Aulani and was returned a large amount of points when they got the view type they paid for. IMO, Disney in general and DVC specifically, would be better off as would the guests and members, if they were just consistent and stood their ground when they were in the right. Save the bribes for when there were real and true issues.

If they called down they got a call center. Not Dvc. Fwiw. As far as I know even with a Dvc resort.

I’ve been reporting it since 2010 and especially since...2013?...as they were moving to rfid cards. Because the two times we’ve had issues and dh has asked them what they think should be done (this is how he does things) that’s the amount they start with.

They bumped it by $50 and a refillable mug the second time when we didn’t have charging set up, but you have to have that to use the credit, and it took 2 hours and multiple trips to the ssr “store” to check if charging was working. By the time he got it sorted the sunshine we had been enjoying at the pool was gone and he was irritated beyond belief.

My guess is that Dean Marino is asking owners not to complain, or accept money??

They called down to the front desk is what I gathered. They were at Poly. We were headed to the airport together.

received $200 credit for the luau.

If the credit was to book the luau which the renter didn't booked previously, then the cost to Disney could have been much lower. If the luau wasn't full that evening, the actual cost would be just the cost of the food, and possibly not even that if the food was already being prepared anyway. If the renter had a big family and ended spending more than the $200 credit, the mouse might even have gained something. A way to fill the dinner show and giving the renter the impression of a big refund without actually spending much: smart.

I wasn't sure if it was that or not to rent.

Not sure if comps would even come out of DVC dues?.....highly doubt it.....so what would be the big deal then....no I don't think all minor issues should be comped.....but if its not a part of our dues....i don't really care.....

I wonder why bell services was delivering food to a room without someone being there? I mean, shoot, they don't even deliver stuff to the room that you bought in the parks, you have to claim them in the resort gift shops.

If you use the resort grocery order from that's available on the member website, those groceries are supposed to be delivered directly to your room even if you are not present.

I thought they stopped delivery if someone wasn't there. The last time we ordered anything directly, we had to be there for delivery.

Ditto. The renter said he was stunned at the amount of alcohol. “Cases and cases” he said, “they were real partiers” Maybe that’s why?

I also have the understanding that if you order thru the resort grocery service it is supposed to be delivered and things in your refrigerator etc even if you are not there.

With alcohol though? I hadn't thought so then.

Interesting, we didn't even get an apology for our issue. The last time we stayed at Saratoga Springs our room was not ready until after 10 PM. We had arrived at the resort around 2 PM. It was raining that day, so the wait was very long. The cast member at the front desk didn't even apologize for our wait. I certainly wasn't expecting a $200 credit but by not even acknowledging the delay, they upset me even more.

I think the $200 is the new go to amount for any problem that is encountered. No escalation to management, it shuts down the issue, people leave happy. I personally don't think the delivery of groceries to the wrong room counts as a serious issue....but serious is in the eyes of the beholder.

I do know that we had two problems on our last trip to Vero Beach -- one being just a total inconvenience and one that I absolutely define as a serious issue. We received $200 credit and also a call back with a free dinner at their Wind and Waves Grill for the serious issue. That was definitely deserved. Also had one issue at BWV where my "pool/garden" view was a tree encompassing and growing into the entire patio (yes we do use the patio). Was offered that $200 credit and I didn't take it. Rather I asked for points compensation. They were really reluctant about that and it took some effort to accomplish (which took well into the vacation and my return from vacation). So there is a case where the $200 was probably less money than the time and effort to get my points back. And please don't say the tree was garden view....although I had wonderful intimate morning conversations with all the tree critters.:-) Not sure if any of this comes out of our dues but it's worth a call to find out and I just might do that vs. speculate upon it.

Comps may come out of dues. They wouldn't come out of DVC marketing for sure.

If they come out of resort operations, that would have a chain effect on dues.
Add all the stuff guests ask the Housekeepers for in the hallway for free and that adds up, too.
