Overflow rates from SOG? Where do you stay?

I see on the SOG website that they offer overflow rates at other Disney resorts if they're full.

Anyone know, what hotel do they overflow to? Do you have a choice or is it a set hotel?

And, are the rates as ridiculously cheap as SOG is? Anyone care to share their overflow resort and rate info?

Thanks!

The last time I asked was a few years ago but they were putting people up in luxury resorts for about 30-40% discount. At the time they were doing construction and a lot of people were ending up in the Poly.

Last time I checked on overflow rates (early this past summer), the rates were not good. They asked me what resort I would like to stay at since SOG was full, so you have your choice of resort but the rates they gave me were no better than anything I could get myself by calling Disney directly. Overflow rates used to be really really good, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I have to agree with BabyFu18. Several years ago we got a Savanah view room at AKL on a SOG overflow rate for end of June at $189/night. This year I called looking for Late July and the best I could get was a waterview at YC for $355/night. Ouch!

I don't know why I feel so entitled, but honestly, I think the overflow rate should be the SOG rate, applied to another hotel. Actually, I DO know why I feel entitled--my husband's been in Iraq for a year!!!

I realize that logically that makes no sense (GF at $110 a night?!?!), but it kind of irks me that Disney doesn't offer a military discount in their regular hotels. Or on their theme park tickets.

But that's a whole different thread, I suppose...

The Swan and Dolphin offer an active-duty military discount, as well as gov. employee, teachers, etc. I know it's still not nearly as good as the SoG rate though. And I think there are military discount tix -- my dad is buying some for our upcoming trip, and someone on the SoG thread I started mentioned it as well.

Having grown up in an Air Force family -- I think you are entitled too!! :)

ITT has discount tickets.. either at your local base or at SoG itself. you do not need to be staying at SoG to get the discount tickets. If you are into the water parks, their super deluxe all inclusive park hooper with water parks is a significant discount off of Disney reg. prices.

Also anyone on R&R from OIF/OEF get additional perks.

and as for the reason Disney doesn't offer huge discounts: they used to until people were taking the free or nearly free tickets and reselling them. That's one of the reasons why Herosalute is now limited to one park visit per year at a Busch Gardens theme park. we used to be able to get in free unlimited times showing just our IDs and getting tickets, but again, they were being sold for profit.

It's well worth carefully comparing offers. Our ITT doesn't sell tickets for more than 6 days. I ended up ordering from undercover tourist, and was quite happy. Sometimes the ITT has great deals, sometimes not so great.

SoG just contacted my folks with an overflow offer for our upcoming trip 12/22 and 12/23. The offer was at CSR, $160 per night plus tax. So that is quite a bit more than SoG rates, and about the same as what we are paying for the Dolphin. We are sticking with the Dolphin.

I was curious about that rate. I went to the Disney site, clicked on the Nov/Dec special offers, and Voila! Guess what rate I saw for 12/22 departing 12/24? $160.00/night plus tax. (I just plugged in 2 adults, don't know your group configuration....but...it would be nicer if SoG told people the rate is the Disney special, and not some extra military perk. Anyone who wants that rate would probably find it easier in the end to just book with Disney directly.)

Yes, I agree. Unless maybe SoG will still get you one of the "special" rate rooms even if Disney shows that rooms at that rate are sold out. :confused3

Last year, when SOG was booked for our dates, the only overflow rates I was offered were full rack rates, no discount at all, at other Disney resorts.

I think Disney is so full now all the time they stopped offering SOG anything.

Hi, About a month ago there was a MILITARY code posted (FFR). I do not remember the dates it was good for but I made note of it in case we were to book a December trip this year. Joan

Shades of Green is a military owned and run resort on property, situated between two golf courses,Magnolia and I forget the other one. It is across the street from the Poly. Only Department of Defense ID holders and their guests are authorized to stay there. room rates are based on paygrade as well as size.

It is comparable to a Moderate in amenities.

Code FFR is only good for certain dates this year. I hope they extend them into '08 as it is a 40% discount. We are trying to stay @ SOG in February for dates that are currently sold-out. We're just going to waitlist as I'm sure someone will cancel between now and then. I'm afraid those "killer" overflow rates are a thing of the past. BTW, when I inquired what they would be for our dates I was told to call back on the 15th (which would be the 4mos mark) as they didn't have them yet. I asked if we could be waitlisted now and check the o/f rates next week and she said they couldn't do both. What's up with that? I mean really, if the o/f rates are better I would immediately cancel the waitlist...if not, I would keep it.

I don't agree, SOG is a deluxe resort with the largest standard size rooms, large state of the art work out facility, three resturants, starbucks, breakfast and coffee area, affes store and gift store, two pools and a hot tub, two bars, I know there are things I'm forgetting, but SOG is not like a moderate! Oh, and no taxes!!

I agree, they even have room service (although not 24 hour) and interior hallways, suites, valet parking, etc.

I miss the great overflow rates too.

We were bumped from SOG back in 2000 and they put us in a value resort. When I pointed out that I was paying more than the value rate amount they comped us two days.

This year we are staying where we have the last few years... POP. The rates are better. It costs me $129 a night to stay at SOG. I got two rooms at POP for 6 nights for $663.

The best thing is that my children like POP better. The rooms are smaller but the Disney theming is everywhere. I've stayed in almost every resort during my 21 trips to WDW since 1971.

When SOG was in the middle of remodeling we stayed at both the Contempory and the Poly (two different trips) for around 129.00 per night.
