I got home from the grocery store a little bit ago and just noticed that I was way over charged on some grapes that I bought. I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention when they were ringing me up, so I didn't catch it at the store. Somehow the grapes ran up at over $8, and when I calculated the weight of the grapes I got that is listed on the receipt against the price, it should be closer to $3. Can I go back and complain? Since I already left and have been home will they refund me the difference?

I have $8.00 grapes sitting in my kitchen also......It is a normal size bag.

Yes, go back and take your receipt. I would hope they would fix their error.

I always check before leaving the store; I'm often mischarged and go right to the counter to fix the error. Sometimes, if I'm right and the sign is wrong, I get the item for free. Anyway, I'd go back tomorrow if you're in the area. Best of luck--they should fix it without a problem.

At publix if anything is ever rung up incorrectly, you get the item for free. I once had tomatoes rung up at regular price rather than sale price. When I went to the counter to get the difference, I was given a full refund. One more reason why I love that store.

On a couple of occasions though, I've picked up "organic" produce without knowing it, till it was rung up and I got sticker shocked. I usually then have the cashier take it off. (another reason why I love publix, they can delete items without a supervisor approval unlike at Wal-Mart that take forever to get to the register.)

A funny story that happened once...

My g'mother went to Publix for some shopping. When she got home, she couldn't find the package of ground beef. She swore up and down that she never walked out the store with it (because she couldn't find it at home). She went back to the store to see if maybe it was left at the register, and it wasn't, and so she was given a refund (with reciept).
About a week later the "lost" package of meat was discovered in the trunk of the car.

Last summer when my ILs were visiting my DH stopped by the store (Kroger) on the way home from work to pick up 2 cucumbers for the salad my MIL was making. When he walked the door he grumbled "I'm never buying cucumbers again - I just paid $6 for two of them!". I looked at the receipt and they charged him for some kind of apples. Well, my MIL ("Bargain Basement 'Lil") called the store and told them and said she'd be in the next day to get a refund and, oh, she wasn't bringing the cucumbers back because she had already chopped them for the salad. :rotfl:

She went to the store the next day, gave them an earful, and got our $6 back.

No, it definatly wasn't winter time (but it wasn't summer, maybe sometime in the fall), and this was in Miami, Fl. I think it took a couple weeks to finally clear the smell out.

I do about 99% of my shopping at Publix. When I find an error on my receipt, I just call the store, speak to customer service, tell them the mix up, get the name of the person and get a refund with the receipt next time I am in the store.

Call the store right away and explain the error. I've been overcharged too many times. I always call the store, speak to someone in customer service and explain the situation. They have always been very nice and refunded the difference or the entire cost, depending on store policy. (We move a lot, so it is not one store consistantly.)

How's this for good customer service? Just recently I was shopping at Target and needed to get home quickly. Got checked out, loaded up the car, and headed home. Once I unloaded everything, I realized I left a 12 pack of Diet Coke under the cart. (checked the receipt, was charged) TOTALLY kicking myself, on a whim I called the store to explain what happened. They said, it happens ALL the time. Once I told them the item, they had it held in the customer service area with my name on it. I went in the next day (with receipt) and picked it up. They never even looked at my receipt. I've been a loyal Target customer for a long time, but that sealed the deal.

Had BJ's do the same thing for me with a giant box of diapers. When they're nearly $30, you're seriously kicking yourself! How the @#$% did I leave a GIGANTIC box of diapers under a cart?! Anyways, called - yup, they found them, and I just brought the receipt in the next time I went and picked up the box. So grateful! :thumbsup2

Oh, and at Target one time, walked out with a box of diapers under the cart we didn't PAY FOR!!! Went back in to customer service with them, explained and paid. The person made a comment - basically asked why I would do that. I told her it wasn't right, and beyond that it certainly wasn't setting any kind of good example for DS if he saw us essentially - albeit unintentionally - stealing!

ABSOLUTELY!! I had to go back yesterday to the store because when I got home I noticed that not only was I over charged, but I did not get my discounts. I got charged for 3 cartons of eggs when I bought 2, and 4 packages of fugdesicles when I bought 2. All of the items were 1/2 off and I only got discounts for 2 items. I went back and got my money. It was $10 worth!

Go back. Get your mula!

This happened to my DP at the drugstore once - there was some problem with her coupons not ringing correctly so the cashier had to return her purchase and ring it through again - but she had never paid! Didn't realize it until she was in another store, so she stopped back in the drugstore on her way home, explained what had happened, and paid for her items. The cashier was shocked that she'd come back to pay, because "most people wouldn't."

Just call them and be nice or go back if you are going out again.. We are all human and make mistakes just be strong, but really polite, works for me everytime. same thing i have walked out of stores with free stuff you forgot it was under the cart they didnt ring it up right and kids are asking for gum candy, water, soda, baseball cards etc. omg kids and shopping ugh.
