Over the stove microwave handle gets HOT

Is there a cover I can buy (or make) that will help? The problem is that the handle is metal, I'm thinking if I had a rubber or cloth cover it would work. It never crossed my mind when I bought this that it would be a problem. Thanks!

What about one of those pad things you can buy for car seat straps or seatbelt straps?

If it gets that hot..maybe consider a silicone handle. They sell them for the handles of pans, but I think you cut cut off the end, and then slit it and slide it over your microwave handle if need be? I think I paid $5 for the one I got on Amazon.

That is a great idea. I contacted Maytag to tell them it was a poor design and they basically said tough luck.

We have an over the stove microwave. If needed, we use an oven mitt or hot pad to open the door.

I complained when we installed our over the stove microwave and the manufacturer (can't remember the brand right now) told me the same thing -- tough and does it really get that hot? Yes, yes it does get that hot! Haven't found a solution yet, but it came as quite a shock the first time we made pasta and then touched the handle. I guess we're just more careful now.

I would just use a potholder to open it.
