Over the River and Through the Woods to Mickey's House We Go! And Grandma is in Tow!

Back in 1995 my best friend and I drove to Florida (with her 17 year old brother) and stayed at her parents winter home for a week. We went to Universal and Disney and a few toher fun things and just had fun.
We drove down, boy it's a long drive from Ohio, but when we got into FL and started seeing those signs we were cracking up. We thought there must be alot of slutty chicks in FL or something. And they all like chicken wings too.! LOL

Oh, the Walt Disney World sign!! I can't wait either! And no apologies necessary for all of your details, we love it, that's what we're all about here :goodvibes

Bet after planning and typing that out, you wish it was travel day!

Well Lisa, I think it's offical that we are NOT going anywhere. Claire told me last night that Dad told her we are NOT going to Disney this year. I don't know what the conversation was, as they were downstairs painting something, but after he left, she came up to me with sad eyes..(MY poor baby) and said that dad told her no Disney this year, with the look like Can you beleive it? LOL!
I know he wants to go tractor pulling this summer, and I think that is why he doesn't want to spend any money on Disney.
So now I feel so down, but I'll just keep thinking about trying to get my credit cards completely paid down (I have them down alot now ) and then save for a trip. It will still take awhile, but it will keep me going!

I should start a little savings fund though...like you said...it will give me something to work toward! :goodvibes

Hi Lisa!

That's so sweet that your mom is getting excited for Disney!!!

Loved seeing the Walt Disney World sign!!! It made my day!!!:thumbsup2

Hope you're having a good day too!!:goodvibes

Yep, I know what you mean about the "Ladies" signs along I-75. Somer & I have taken to naming the women "Breakfast", "Lunch", and "Dinner" as they always use the same girls for the same meals!:rotfl: Have you ever noticed that the business across the street from the Adult place is named "Smiley's"? :rotfl2:

At least on I-75 there are more kinds of trees to look at plus some horse farms. I think the pine trees on I-10 are soooo boring!

Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't been around today. It's billing time again at the office. I absolutely hate it!

During my lunch hour, I spent most of the time researching the Disney Alaska Cruise. My mother wants to go to Alaska so bad and I want to do a Disney cruise very badly. So, I thought about it and I remembered that Disney said they'd start offering Alaskan cruises in 2011. I plugged in a few May and June, 2011 dates. The cost for all four of us would be a little over $5,000.00 but that doesn't include airfare to Vancouver which I figure will be a hefty chunk of change. It's still something to consider.

Oh, and yesterday sucked big time! We had $306.00 worth of work done on the car. John brought it to me right before lunch but had to park it across the street in the courthouse parking lot. I got in at lunch and was driving slowly down the lane when some stupid girl started backing up. Not from a parking place either. She just put her Tahoe in reverse and started backing up. Obviously, she didn't look behind her before she put it in reverse because I was behind her. Of course, I laid on my horn and was yelling (like she could hear me in my car ) but I couldn't back up because there were people behind me. She just backed right over the front of my car.

Thankfully, there was absolutely no damage to my car. At least, I couldn't see any visible damage. I called the police who told me they don't come to parking lot accidents. We have to exchange information and then I'd go to the police station and make a report. How stupid is that?!?!

The whole time I am on the phone with the police and then while exchanging insurance information, she's on the phone. She said "My Mama wants you to write something saying there's no damage to your car". I looked her straight in the eye and said "You can tell your Mama to shove it because I'm not going to do that. Tell your Mama that I am a paralegal and am not stupid enough to write let alone sign something like that." I continued to look at her as if she had three eyes and a great big ole' head and she said "Mama said okay." As she was writing down her information, I saw that she had a telephone number from a local town where John's family lives. I made sure that she knew that "I know people there." I just conveniently left out the part that it was John's family and not some hot shot Judge or something.

Then, the girl proceeds to tell me that she was all shook up because she had been in court and they didn't call her name. That, immediately, told me that she had been in criminal court. That's the only court that they just call out your name. I asked her what she was going to court for and she said "Domestic violence. I had to serve 72 hours in jail and now I have to go back to court." Great! I've been backed into by a husband/boyfriend beater. I told her to go back to court at 1:00 p.m. and tell the bailiff that her name wasn't called and ask what she needed to do. I couldn't help myself...the paralegal came out in me and I felt the need to advise her. She thanked me and got in her car and left.

John came and looked at the car and we didn't see any damage. Instead of going to the police department and having to go through the whole hassle of making a report, we decided to just leave it be. The girl is already in enough trouble. Why make a claim when there was really nothing wrong to the car?

Then, when I got home last night, Hunter proceeds to tell me that he has to have a white shirt to wear to school the next day. It had to be a dress shirt or a polo shirt. Now I don't know about most of you guys but I don't buy my 12 year old boy white shirts......hum.....can we say pizza sauce or ketchup or mustard splatter stains? During the horrendous thunder and lightning storm and tornado watches, we were making a fast trip to Wal-Mart. The only shirt I could find was a white polo shirt. At least it was only $5.50.

So, as you can see, I've had a little excitement in the last couple of days. I went home and to sleep with a major headache. I wonder why?

Ah big  Silly, dumb, violent girl. I had to lay on the horn today too cause some dumbbooty tried to turn right in front of me. Glad there was no damage. Great job finding the shirt.

Oh man Lisa....what a day!

I had to go out and purchase "dress" clothes for both of my boys for their winter concerts this year. I'm right there with you...of course my 12 and 15 year old don't have white dress shirts and black dress pants! What occasion would they EVER have to wear them! Well....they have them now...quite a chunk of change later, of course. Oh....and the black necktie as well. YIKES!

Hope tomorrow is a better day for you! ;)

You have had a bad week, bless your heart. I know from experience that police don't come to parking lot accidents here either. A lady busted out the tail light on my van, a few years back, and we were given the same information you were given about police reports and so forth. I didn't give the lady my information as I was in the store when it happened and she was nice enough to be writing a note to leave on my van when I came out. She didn't want me to file it on her insurance though, said she would pay for it OOP, but I had to have a rental van and it took our Mazda dealer 2 weeks to get the bumper, and tail light thingie in. Her husband didn't want to pay for the rental so I just called their insurance and got a van for 2 weeks.

I hope the Friday is a better day for you and this weekend goes well.

Oh and on the white shirt, Dallas does have ONE and I won't even let him drink Coke when he is wearing it, he has to drink Sprite :lmao:.

Sorry you had souch a rough day, Lisa! That Alaska cruise sounds CHEAP! I just may have to book one of those, too! :yay:

Here's a  for a really bad day! I hope today is much better! Accidents are such a pain! :headache: I'm sorry you had to deal with all that.

And white shirts on a 12 year old? :rotfl: You can always tell when people don't have kids of their own or it's been so long they've forgotten what it's like. The school uniform when my DD was in elementary school? - you guessed it, white shirts & navy pants. At least it wasn't white pants! And the best part was they had popsicle day every Wednesday. I don't know how many Wednesdays I spent trying to get orange or fugesicle juice out of those shirts. :sad2:

Here's hoping you have a much more magical day! pixiedust:

I love to see that sign too! Your Day 2 sounds great Lisa. I wish my Joe would let us drive again but alas he is all about flying now. I think it would be fun to stop maybe in Atlanta or Macon over night and finish the drive from there. Have a great night!

I actually don't mind the drive even if it is boring. If you can't tell, I'm a talker. I can start a conversaton about a piece of grass on the side of the road.

John Travolta has a house in Ocala. Working for Disney sure makes that much closer. I love seeing those signs too. I always get a lump in my throat when I see them. We found a new way onto Disney's property when we went down in September and we bypass most of I-4. It is much faster and I think we were the only car on the road :thumbsup2.

I get a lump every time I see them too.

What route do ya'll take after you get to Lake City? We never go on I-4.

Those signs are the best after a long drive! We drive too it takes a little over 8 hours with bathroom breaks. I always sleep the whole time while dh drives but this year it will be just me and my mom driving. Can't wait to hear the rest!

I wish we had just 8 hours of driving. There's absolutely positively no way I could sleep while John is driving. He scares me to death with his driving. That's why I am usually the one doing the driving.

Oh man...I so want to see that sign! Just seeing it in your pictures gets me all giddy! :goodvibes

I even like looking at it in pictures. Maybe you'll get to see if sooner rather than later.

I was soooo mad at the stupid girl for backing into me. I was just thankful that there was nothing wrong with my car.

It just pisses me off to no end to see cops sitting in the middle of the interstate or on the side of the road chatting with other cop friends but they won't drive over to a parking lot and report a wreck.

I wish the band director had told us about the white shirt earlier. The weather was horrible and we were going to Wal-Mart.

Sorry you had souch a rough day, Lisa! That Alaska cruise sounds CHEAP! I just may have to book one of those, too! :yay:

Thanks! I hope that the Alaska cruise becomes a reality. I think it will all depend on how high the airfare is.

LOL

The signs are just the craziest things ever. They don't come right out and say what they are advertising but there's no denying it!

Oh, the Walt Disney World sign!! I can't wait either! And no apologies necessary for all of your details, we love it, that's what we're all about here :goodvibes

Bet after planning and typing that out, you wish it was travel day!

You are right...as I was typing the details I found myself wishing I was on the road already!

I know he wants to go tractor pulling this summer, and I think that is why he doesn't want to spend any money on Disney.
So now I feel so down, but I'll just keep thinking about trying to get my credit cards completely paid down (I have them down alot now ) and then save for a trip. It will still take awhile, but it will keep me going!

NO! NO! NO! Keep saving those pennies so maybe you can get to Disney sooner rather than later. Poor Claire!

Jen...I can totally sympathize. We aren't able to go this year either and I really don't know when we'll get back...it really is sad! We need to move to a bigger house and have to save our tax and bonus money to fix some things in this one to get ready to sell. I had to prioritize a bit..painful as it was..and realize that if I want a bigger house I need to give up Disney this year. **sigh** Disney will be there waiting, but this house feels smaller every day with three growing boys..two of them teenagers! ;)

I should start a little savings fund though...like you said...it will give me something to work toward! :goodvibes

With three growing boys, I am sure that you do need a larger house. Hunter's stuff keeps spreading throughout the entire house and he's the only child we still have at home!

Hi Lisa!

That's so sweet that your mom is getting excited for Disney!!!

Loved seeing the Walt Disney World sign!!! It made my day!!!:thumbsup2

Hope you're having a good day too!!:goodvibes

You will be seeing that Disney sign very very soon! Lucky duck!

:rotfl2:

That Disney sign is wonderful! It just makes your heart go pitter patter, doesn't it?

It's really nice your mom is getting excited! Ya'll are going to have so much fun.

You were the exact person I was talking about when I said "some of you will know what signs I am talking about". I think I did notice Smiley's.

The stretch of road with the WDW sign is my favorite piece of real estate on the planet.:cool1: I hope your mom stays excited it will make the anticipation of the trip more fun. I unfortunately have to add our names to the list of not going to Disney this year. Here in Illinois state employees have to take 4 furlough days.:sad1: 4 days w/o pay makes it a no brainer about travel this year. At least for the now we all still have jobs.:scared1:

I love that feeling you get when the signs comes into view. I get all wiggly giggly inside.

I'm sorry to hear that you won't be making a trip to Disney this year. There are perks to working for the State and then there are downsides to working for the State. My dad was a State employee for the majority of his working life.

I want to scream like a little girl when i see the sign! :cheer2:

Meeeeee tooooo!

Ah big  Silly, dumb, violent girl. I had to lay on the horn today too cause some dumbbooty tried to turn right in front of me. Glad there was no damage. Great job finding the shirt.

John said I was lucky she didn't go all domestic violence on me.

Just jumping in to say you may want to check with a TA that specializes in the Disney Cruise line as they may be able to give you some suggestions on how to make it some what affordable. Also flights to Canada are no where near as bad as ones to Europe. Just don't forget about having your passports.

I get a lump every time I see them too.

What route do ya'll take after you get to Lake City? We never go on I-4.

We go I-75 to the turnpike to I-4. I don't like taking I-4 because it is soooooooo busy and Dale always wants to drive in the middle lanes .

Dale makes me nervous driving to Lisa, but it makes me more nervous with me driving. I have gotten bad in my old age. I use to not ever be scared to ride with anyone or to drive anywhere.

Oh I know what you mean. It makes me soooooo mad to see the police not doing their job. I was broken down one day and there were actually 2 police cars that pulled around me and kept going. I was in the middle of a VERY busy intersection. I was scared to death. I was waiting on a wrecker to come and get my car. When a policeman finally did stop he was just as pissed as I. He said it didn't surprise him that the other just pulled around me and kept going.

It is very annoying when someone waits until the last minute to let you know you need something. I'm glad you were safe going out in that bad weather. I know it got really rough here.

Sorry you had a bad day Lisa! That girl needed a break it sounds like. Maybe it will be her queue to turn her life around. I doubt it but we can always hope. I'm with ya on the police not coming...

As for the shirt, I honestly buy white all the time now and here's why...I LOVE the clorox bleach pens. My girls create stains ALL the time. At least on white I can get it out with the pen now. I just put a little dab on there and the spot is gone after the wash. :goodvibes The bleach pen is one of my favorite things. :thumbsup2
