Over Night Stop

We use Wal-Mart lots for short overnights on long trips. We research the route ahead of time and choose 24 hour WM stores. We have NEVER been the only camper in the lot. Sometimes we were actually concerned about finding a parking spot because so many were already in the lot. I agree with a prior post that this tends to be a very loud option. The noise from a sweeper machine at 4 am is not a pleasant way to wake after a long day traveling.:headache: But, hey, the price is right and you can restock before you hit the road again.

If you want a full day's rest with peace and mostly quiet {they do have skeet shooting on occasion elsewhere on the property} you might stay at Broxton Bridge Plantation. They have horse trails and are golfcart friendly. Tons of sites, mostly unused except for big events, full hook-ups. I think they get $25/night.

About 15 miles west of Walterboro; Hwy 64 to left on Cayce Rd, Cayce Rd dead ends at the intersection of Hwy 601 and at the entrance to the campground

Please don't flame me ;) I have been camping for years and years with a pop up, never did any overnight stops other than a motel room. Now with the Travel trailer
we can do over night stops and stay in the camper. Now for the question, Would you ever stay over night in a rest area,
Wal Mart or Truck Stop? I don't like to make reservation for a campground when driving down to the fort as I never know what kinda of time I will make or when I will get tired.

Last time we traveled to the Fort, I knew we'd need at least one if not two spots to overnight. I didn't make reservations but had done some research
on our route and had found campgrounds along the way.

For the ones that would put us near where we planned to stop (based on Mapquest mileage), I printed out the contact information and put it in the truck.
When we thought we'd had enough, called the closest one to check availability and pulled in. It was nice to have power for fans/fridge and a bath house for
showers rather than using ours and having to dump tanks or towing that extra weight. Also wasn't approached by anyone at rest stops or truck stops.....

I think the most I paid for a single night was about $30, and the least was $15. I did have to pay cash one night because they said their person who
knew how to do credit cards wouldn't be back for a couple of day!!!! :confused3 Really??? Only one person knows how???

If you don't have The Next Exit book, I would highly recommend that. Tells you whats at every exit on major highways, including gas, restaurants, hotels, campgrounds, etc.
I also used a website called www.roadcamping.com to find campgrounds along major highways....

We often stay in a Rest Area. Here in Florida they have night time security patrolling. The only time we have been disturbed was when our dogs started barking in the middle of the night. When I checked, it was the Security guard making his rounds. Never had a problem.

I should have added that we drive until tired. Stop, walk the dogs and go to bed. First one awake walks the dogs, turns on the coffed and slips behind the wheel and we're back on the road.

I don't think I would feel safe staying in a rest area overnight - too many horror stories. We frequently stay at Flying J's when travelling and have never felt unsafe. There are limited RV parking spots in the front of the stations but you always have the option of parking with the trucks. We do this when traveling cross-country and it has saved us alot of money. We will usually pull into a campground every third night and just relax, take longer showers and catchup on some laundry.
