Hi,
My dad just had a kidney transplant 2 months ago (My sister donated). He has been given the okay to go to Disney (in August). However he can not spend long periods of time in direct sunlight. :sunny:
While our park plans are in the mornings and at night, I'm still a little concerned. He is getting an ECV with a little canopy and all the mist-fans and other gadgets to go along. I have heard that guest relations can give you a front of the line of ticket to get out rides in direct sunlight(with a doctor's note).
Has anyone else heard of this or done this before? Is there anything else we should know about? Any suggestions/comments would be good. I've read on Disney's website and didn't really find anything too helpful.
THANKS!!! :goodvibes

Welcome to disABILTIES!. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The second item down is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including about Guest Assistance Cards (GAC).

He will not get front-of-the-line access, even with a doctor's note. What he can get is a stamp indicating he should be able to wait out of direct sunlight. In this situation he will still have to wait the same approximate time as if he had been in line, but the wait will be in a shaded area.

::yes::
Just agreeing with what Cheshire Figment wrote. If you read the GAC information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, it should answer your questions.

But, even if he gets a GAC, staying out of the sun while he is in lines is only going to be a small portion of the time he is out in the sun.
Here's a link to a good page of hints.
Plus, one other thing he may want to look into is clothing that protects from the sun.
Here's a disABILITIES Board thread from a little earlier in the year that discussed GACs for avoiding the sun, sunscreen and sun protecive clothing (with lots of links to clothing).
