That happened to me on my last Disney cruise. I was in the elevator and someone sneezed right in my face, was horrible and I ended up getting sick later on. My next cruise isn't until NYE, I'm hoping that this is gone by then.
You will LOVE your NYE cruise! I just did one on the Magic to ring in 2020 and it was incredible. I'm sure this Coronavirus will be all figured out by NYE 2020.

Quite often. I’m a teacher.

Okay, you're dealing with children. How many times has an adult done that? I get it...there's a lot of kids on cruises too. How many kids, on cruises, that are not your own kids, do you get down to face level with?

That is a job-specific problem.

How do you catch it if confined to your room, unless your family member is contagious?

Thats exactly why they are confined for 14 days, to see if the virus develops in that time. Its possible the WILL catch it from a family member in the same room if they are asymptomatic but still contagious or if they are infected and showing signs of it.

Was out grocery shopping. Some guy coughing into his hands in the produce section. Then went on to touch green onions to pick the ones he like. Touched the whole batch. Grossed me out. I should have said something. But I had to leave the section ASAP.

I work in a grocery store. That's the least of your worries and they wouldn't have removed the onions. Just wash EVERYTHING you get that is ready to eat and nonpackaged (produce) and never let it touch the cart without being in a bag.

Should I be worried if I am not that scared yet? nobody died on board of the virus yet right?
I do believe that pre cautions should always be taken, like was your hands regularly with soap. And eat healthy so your immune system is at its strongest. I am sure this corona virus will get much worse before it will get better. But being scared? not yet

our ministry of health said today that anyone returning from anywhere in the east will be under house quarantine for 14 days.
That's massive as we have a lot of travel to china, Hong Kong, japan, singapore, taiwan, thailand, vietnam, etc., both business and pleasure (with many many daily non-stop flights to all of them - though the flights to Beijing and Shanghai were suspended last week).
The ministry said no exceptions. Everyone will be subject to a 14 day house quarantine.
Until now, it was only China and Hong Kong, but the surge in cases in Singapore, Thailand and Japan made the decision inevitable.

I'm not scared of catching the virus even though I am immuno compromised. I am hesitant about our spring Med cruise more because I am worried about being denied boarding (picking up a cold on the plane, seasonal allergies making me appear sick), the ship already being quarantined so I cant board, or getting on a ship and then having it be quarantined (or out at sea with no accepting ports). At this point I am wondering if it is better to cancel the cruise (still before PIF) and just plan a land vacation rather than getting there and scrambling to find hotels/ activities for the week we shuld have been cruising. Those are the things that are weighing on me.

Also, right now I think cruise lines are probably being pretty generous with those denied boarding. Usually the first few caught up in something like this "make out" the best. We will be several months in by the time my cruise rolls around and while I still think they may refund the fare of passengers denied boarding, what about cabin mates? Then we have to decide do we split up in Europe or eat the cost of my husbands cruise if I am denied boarding (or vice versa, although it's usually me that gets a small cold on flights and not him).

Watching this next week very closely. And watching the Diamond Princess very closely as well. How that plays out will greatly inform how other lines react, I would think.

besides the health issues, the economic impact of the china shutdown is going to start to be felt soon.
Factories that use raw material from China are going to have a problem.
Everyone planned for Chinese new year shut downs. But now they've gone beyond that time, and since many chinese factories will continue to be closed, the factories in other countries that depend on chinese parts will start to feel the shortage.

Where is this? That is getting extreme. We got back from Japan on Jan 20th, this would have affected us :0

i'm in israel.
This was just decided today.
Up until today, it was only those returning from china and hong kong had to stay home for 14 days.
They announced today it would now be for anyone returning from anywhere in the east.
The cases in Japan are up to almost 100, thailand and singapore have also surged.
Truth is, i think it's inevitable that it's going to get to us as well.
the spread is striking. I don't see how any country can escape it.

We have the same in the Netherlands, but this was already decided when the first flight with people from Wuhan area came back to Europe. My manager is among them, decided to go to the planned family visit for Chinese new year. And now that he is back, he has to stay home for two weeks, I believe. But at work we weren't told all the details.
We still have 0 cases in my country.

no you shouldn't be worried. 70 out of 3700 people is not that alarming to me - it's less than 2% of the people on board. When there is a noro or flu outbreak the numbers are WAY higher for people affected. You are far more likely to catch the flu or the norovirus on board a Disney ship than the coronavirus, and the coronavirus isn't any more likely to kill you than the flu is - death rates in areas that have good sanitation and access to good medical care are comparable to a middling virulent flu year but of course in areas that don't have good sanitation and medical care is being overrun it is much higher. All of the cases in developed countries where medical care is available have good outcomes so far.

Another less scary thing about this virus (at least for me) is that it has a very LOW transmission rate among kids under 15 - good for me because my 11 year old son is terrible at washing his hands and is way too big/old for me to take him into the ladies' room to supervise.

I think a lot of what is scary about it is the unknown... it's too new to have a lot of data about transmission and death rates and China is not being forthcoming about it, so it's freaking people out more. But so far in the western world it's not a huge deal, people who are getting it are being quarantined and having good medical outcomes (it will be a major deal when someone finally dies from it in the western world but just keep in mind that tens of thousands die from flu every year, and that is with a readily available vaccine!) You are far far far more likely to contract something else on a Disney cruise than the coronavirus, the only thing is if you contract the coronavirus you will need to deal with being quarantined yourself. Right now US ships are not quarantining entire ships like they are in Asia, just the infected people. They also have pretty serious sanitation protocols in place from other strains of nasty you can get on the cruise.

So no I don't think you should be worried. I'm far more worried about the atmosphere of people freaking out than I am about the actual virus, we live in scary times on many levels and this is not helping. But my son and I got our flu shots and I am on him like crazy to wash his hands and short of putting us both in a bubble, I am not any more worried about this than the other thousands of bad things that are statistically more likely to happen. We're on the Fantasy two weeks from yesterday!
