Ovarian cysts

I had endo and pco, dx in my teens. Total of 6 surgeries between 16 and 25. My cysts would torque and had emergency surgery to remove.
both of these things are evil. Complete hyst at 25. I was issued defective parts, I sent them back. This was also many decades ago,and pain pills were given. Thank god!

i found heating pad was my bff. And hot baths. The new magnet heating pads exude gentle warmth for hours. I would try that. Hope you have relief soon and I would see my gyn before my pcp for this one.

In Canada one has to be referred to a gynaecologist by a GP. You can’t just call up a specialist (of any kind) and make an appointment. If our primary care doctors feel like they are equipped to handle whatever issue they are dealing with, they don’t refer. It’s just one difference between your healthcare system and ours.

Interesting. My gynecologist is my PCP. I have endo and PCOS and had to have an ovarian cyst removed. Since most of my health issues are related to my reproductive system, it just made more sense for me. I haven't seen a GP in years, but see my gynecologist at least yearly.

I second heat - rice bag, hot water bottle, electric pad...whichever kind you have handy. (I've even seen sticky patches that you can move around in.)

And write down all your questions to take to your appointment!

A good friend manages a fairly large doctors' practice that specializes in things like sports injuries and other types of injuries. Many of the patients are long-term with very gnarly injuries, including the back/spine. Because of what they treat prescribing pain meds is a regular course of business. Because of the seriousness of the opioid crisis doctors prescribing them are constantly audited -- particularly if you prescribe them frequently. A huge part of my friend's job has now become staying on top of the constant audits.

It's very rare for them to prescribe pain meds beyond a few days, a week max. Qualifying for a longer term script for pain meds is a very involved process that requires mandatory routine appointments with blood testing and urine screens. Almost none of their long-term patients qualify for the scripts anymore. Patients with long-term needs are steered towards other methods of treatment more and more. Long-term scripts for something like Tramadol are essentially unheard of. It is incredibly addicting.

It’s funny that this thread got bumped because this happened just after Christmas.

I waa given a prescription for Tramadol and I filled 20 pills. Ive been taking them as needed and still have 20 on file if I need them. I’m glad I don’t feel an addiction to them because I rarely, but sometimes, have to get an IV steroid and I’m addicted tonit after two days. I have to have a very long taper and luckily my neuro knows that and has no problem prescribing the taper.

Oh I've seen your posts about several variations leading to this same result over the past couple years and am well aware of your dismissal of the dangers. I don't feel right to simply be silent when I'm aware of what happens when it goes wrong.

I’m not really sure what you’re referring to..

I know I can get addicted to certain meds so I know what to watch out for. My regular doctor is not one who just hands out prescriptions if I ask for them (not that I do lol).

I appreciate the concern, but I think it’s a little misguided.

Aleve or Advil didn't work?

As I said, I know your attitude. You said much the same when I responded to your thoughts about needing something to deal with your daughter's move quite some distance away. I've said nothing on every other thread since where you've outlined why the only answer for relief for whatever your medical issue turns out to be narcotic.

I truly hope I am the misguided one, sincerely I do. Pain is not fun, nor is it something to be rude or snarky about in case you have any illusions that is what I am doing.

it does some of the time but not when the pain is more than I want to tough through. I have a high tolerance for pain, but the constant throbbing can get quite painful.

Thinking about my daughter being gone was worse than her actually being gone. Plus, when she was gone, I was also going through my husband almost dying and I didn’t even think about needing something then, but I’m sure it could have been justified.

It may seem that I’m drug seeking, but I’m really not. I see too many doctors that wouldn’t let that happen. Plus, medical records keep track of what’s prescribed and when so it’s not like I could go to ten different doctors for prescriptions.

Plus, if all I was interested in was the high, I’d go to the store and buy a joint..seeing that it’s legal here lol

I have a rather large cyst on my left ovary. It's been there for years at this point and used to give me terrible pain around ovulation and my period. For the longest time, my OB/GYN basically just kept monitoring the size and saying to take Motrin (which does nothing during a bad flare up). I also suffer from endometriosis (same advice- take some motrin). At one point, they gave me the Mirena IUD, which was a horrible experience beginning to end and I'll spare you the details. I finally got a new doctor when we moved a few months ago and she put me on Mylan, which keeps me having a period only once every three months. It's kind of a game changer for my pain. I still have pain around my period, but it's a lot less frequent and not as debilitating. Different drugs work better for different people- don't give up on finding a solution that works best for you, and don't settle for "take motrin" if that's not working!

Thanks for the advice. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago so thank goodness I don’t have to go through any of that any more.
My regular gp has been out of the country for a while (he left right after the Iran plane crash, so I hope it wasn’t due to that) but I see him in two weeks for some follow up.
