I know this is off topic but I want to know if any ladies on here have ever had any dealings with an ovarian cyst. I have been having pain on the right side of my stomach really low and I went today and had my "yearly" exam done and the Dr said that he felt something on my Ovary when he was doing the internal exam. He is sending me next Tuesday to have a pelvic ultrasound done to see what is going on. I have been having pains since around the begining of the month. I know that sometimes they give BC for cyst but I have migraines so I can't take BC. I just want to know if anybody has had any dealings with an Ovarian Cyst.

Mandy, I get cysts from time to time. In fact, last month I went for my yearly check-up and the Dr did an ultrasound and I have a smallish cyst on my right ovary. He sadi it is a harmless fluid filled cyst but I have to go back in a few weeks to make sure that it has gone away. This is probably the 3rd or4th that I've had and luckily they just go away on thier own without any treatment. I hope you have the same outcome. Try not to worry :thumbsup2

I did, but from what I was told, mine was unusual in that it had to be surgically removed. Over a period of at least 15 years, I had extreme pain (although in later years, the pain actually eased up). I went to 7 different doctors and had 4 ultrasounds before I had a doctor decide to send me for an MRI. The cyst I had was so large that it was pushing all of my internal organs out of the way. It was about the size of a small melon. So 6 years ago, I had to have major surgery and I now have an 8-inch scar. At first, my doctor thought it was cancer, too. She took out that cyst, plus 2 others on my right side, and she discovered that it was due to endometriosis. I have a new doctor now, and I had to have another US earlier this year because I have cysts on each side again. Since they're small, we're not going to do anything just yet, because they may still resolve themselves (they usually do, from what I've researched, or they can be shrunk with pills). It's no fun, though :grouphug:

Mandy - I get cysts as well - mainly from Endometriosis - all have gone away on their own except for one. That one I had to have major surgery to get rid of - not fun...but it was a very large cyst.

Hopefully it will go away on its own!

I had one the size of a grapefruit removed when I had my first c-section almost 9 years ago. I never would have known it was there . The dr. just found it when they got in there. The dr. kept saying that I had probably had pain that I just thought was a tummy ache or cramps, but honestly I didn't notice a difference after.

Surely you wouldn't have to have an operation as major as a c-section to have it removed. I don't think it has come back. I guess I maybe wouldn't know. They did do a biopsy and it was just a benign fluid filled cyst. I think it is probably very common and probably just goes undetected most of the time.

I went to the ER twice in 5 days because I was in so much pain. I thought I was trying to pass a kidney stone. They did an abdominal CT the 2nd time I went to the ER because the ER Dr thought it was a cyst but it did not show anything. I told my regular Dr about having the CT and he called and got the results and he said that when they did the CT they did not do it far enough down to where I am having pain. So it is possible that is really is a cyst. I am just tired of being in pain.

Last summer, I had a cyst that ruptured. I had worse-than-usual cramps and b/c I had some other problems, I went to my gyn. who felt "something" and ordered an ultrasound which turned up the ruptured cyst as well as a couple of smaller cysts. Dr. wasn't overly concerned about the other cysts, though.

So, chances are that if it's small, they'll leave it alone or monitor it. From what I read on cysts, many go away on their own. Hopefully, yours will be one of those!

I too have had numerous cysts from endometriosis. I didnt have major surgery like some of the others have mentioned. I have had two laparoscopies which is an outpatient procedure and they go in through your belly button. The recovery time is fairly quick for just removing the cysts. Of course they removed lots of endometriosis in addition to the cysts so my recovery time was a little different.

This is exactly my situation as well...I had some major pain on my right side and had ultrasound done and that lead to the inpatient surgery. I recovered pretty quickly from it.
I unfortunately have one now again and am hoping it will go away on its own.
Good luck to you!

I found out I had a cyst the size of a lemon while going through infertility testing. I would never have known it was there otherwise. Since I was trying to get pg, the Dr said we'd give it 2 months to go away, and if it didn't go away by then, that it wasn't going to go away w/o surgery. Fast forward two months and I had outpatient laproscopic surgery to remove the cyst, during which time they also found out I had endo (again, no unsual pain or other symptoms). Post-surgery pain was tolerable with Tylenol every 4 hours for about a week. My two lower scars are almost invisible now (4 years later) buy the belly button scar is here to stay. Hopefully you just have a benign cyst that will resolve on it's own.

Thanks for all the info. Hopefilly next Tuesday when I have the U/S done they will be able to tell me something. If I wasn't in pain I wouldn't worry about it but I can't keep going to the ER at $150 a time. I am going to call the DR tomorrow and see if he can give me something for pain so I can make it through the weekend without having to go to the ER. I swear this feels like I am trying to birth a kidney stone. No fun. Thanks for all the good wishes. I will keep you guys updated.

One more question. Could having a cyst throw your hormones out of control? I just had my monthly and I feel like I am having PMS all over again and it is about 3 weeks early for me to be having PMS. I am so ill and hard to get along with. I don't even want to be around me. :rotfl:

I personally feel that anything that relates to female reproductive organs can throw off your hormones. But I'm not a dr.
I had cysts alot when I was younger and they were controlled by BC pills from the time I was 15. Only teenager I knew that had their dad pick up their BC. :rotfl:
Both my Dsis had endo. One required major surgery because it was essentially strangling everything. :faint:
My other sis had an ovary removed. She was in serious pain, again like you ended up in the ER a couple of times. They told her that the cyst was crushing her ovary and scheduled surgery. It was until they got inside that they realized that the endo was INSIDE the ovary and pushing it out. :scared: It turned out to be the size of an orange when they removed it.
Good Luck with everything! :)
