Outside Photo/Video and Dessert Parties

Hi everyone!

So, I was just reading in Carrie Hayward's Passporters book that only Disney photo/video can do in-park events like dessert parties.

I think this policy may have changed, because I'm fairly certain I've seen recent events where outside vendors took the photos/videos. That said, I'm having mini-hyperventilation moments as a result, because I've already hired my photo/video people--and I think I would be REALLY upset if they couldn't.

I'm fairly certain they can, because I think I've seen recent weddings where outside vendor video/photo was taken at dessert parties. Even Carrie's book is littered with photos at dessert parties taken by the Roots. And from everyone here I've seen PJs for, I've never seen anyone say, "We got x to do our photography, but we had to have one of Disney's people come in for the dessert party." It's possible the policy has changed since her wedding...but I'm hoping that I can still have people there. If not, I think I may have a mini-flipout.

Asking here first in hopes that I can get an answer today, rather than being on pins and needles waiting for my planner to answer.

I know some people HAVE done that (I think Carrie had an Escape bride recently on her podcast who used the Roots for the wedding and DFAP for her DP), but no, that must be an outdated version. Outside photo/video can do all in park events now, you just need to pay a media guide fee per person (I think it's $90). Just budget for yourself that it is per person, not per team - our photo & video are both husband/wife teams so we're paying 4 guide fees.

In a previous thread with someone on using the Disney Visa to pay for stuff...she mentioned something that she was afraid to ask them because she wouldn't get a straight answer. I had responded that I never felt like Disney had outright lied to me about stuff, but they "withheld information" up until it was too late to do anything about it. This is a prime example of that. At no time has my planner, or her assistant, said to me, "By the way, there's a "media fee" you have to pay for your outside vendors." They've told me that there's a waiver they have to sign...but pretty much, nothing else. Yay Disney!

Not like it'll matter--I am happy that I picked outside vendors, as opposed to Disney for my photo/video. I appreciate you telling me though. I'm like you--we have a husband/wife team for both photo and video...so it looks like another $400 (with tax) just for the luxury of using someone else. Oh Disney...how you vex me at times...

Thank you SO much for filling me in. We'll budget for it. That said...we've just kind of gotten to the point of where we have an idea of what we'll end up paying...and then plan on the final bill being (at the very least) $1,000 more than we thought. The magic of Disney is that they are full of "surprises." Hopefully, I'll feel much better after it's all over, and I can just look at my pretty stuff.

Hi Tiffiny!

You appear to have an outdated version of the PassPorter. Ebook owners can always download the latest version for FREE simply by logging back into their account in the PassPorter store and finding the order where they bought the book. The latest version is from January 2014 and includes the current info about outside photography in the parks. I will be releasing an even newer version (no change to photo policies, though) in the next few days.

Hi Carrie,

I'm pretty sure it was just outdated because my mom picked it up for me on Amazon as a Christmas present. I don't know if she found the most recent version.
