thanks! it took me a while to read, just busy, and I have to say I loved it! yes, there were a few slow parts, but overall it was a typical fun read.

can't wait for the next installment...kind of wish I had held off now, because I am very curious what will happen to everyone!

There was another thread that got to be about 2 pages long or so and, I swear, PatsGirl was on it often helping answer my questions. Not sure how to find it but you might do a search on that user name.

I have to say that it was the most disappointing book I've read in awhile.

I loved it - devoured it in about a week and will probably do a re-read this winter when the days get dark and gloomy after Xmas. I love all of Diana's writings though - she can do no wrong in my eyes.

Yes, it is frustrating that we have to wait so long for the next book though, she usually takes about 3 years between books.

Yup, that's the one.

And if you are reading Fiery Cross, then you also have to read A Breath of Snow and Ashes before getting to Echo.

It's so funny to see this thread. I read Outlander about 10 years ago and didn't really care for it. Well I came across it the other day and gave it a second try. I LOVE IT! I have read the first 4 and am waiting for Santa to bring the rest. I did find the 4th one a little heavy with random details. How are the rest?

I'm about 1/3 through with Echo. I'm curious to see where Gabaldon is taking us with some of the plots. I'm in no hurry to finish the book because I know that it'll be years before the next story will be published.

I really wish I had not discovered the series until it's finally finished. It's very frustrating!! I started reading them years ago. I told myself that I wasn't going to read an Echo in the Bone until the next one was out...or the one after that..or whenever I'm sure that's the last. Ofcourse I caved about a week after it was released. I enjoyed it but the ending was extremely uneventful....not trying to be a spoiler, but it's more like a chapter ending than a book ending.

A friend of mine gave me the first book 2 years ago when I needed a distraction/some light reading and I thought it wasn't my style but plowed thru it. about 2/3 of the way thru I got hooked, and then read all the rest, some I've liked more than others. I liked Echo. definitely read at a more leisurly pace than others, tried to stretch it out. I thought a ton happened at the end, and I'm really curious to see how it all ends up...again!

am waiting for my friend to finally read it so I can have a good long chat with her about it. I kept trying to talk to my husband when a few things happened and he just could not care less...gee, wonder why? lol.

Once I got past the first hundred pages or so, I really enjoyed it. (Willie's military exploits bored me silly.) It was such an abrupt ending, though. And now we have to wait forever again for the next one.

I agree the ending was a bit abrupt, and I did not see the point at all of throwing in the bit about jamie being lost at sea/claire's "marriage" to lord john. I would have preferred all that being thrown out the window.

I agree, that part wasn't my favorite.
BUT
I am sure it will somehow become a vital part of the story in the next book. Diana does this often; she writes something that makes you think "HUH? What was the point of THAT??" or "eeeeuw I wish she hadn't done THAT " but then at some point in the future there is an AH-HAH moment where it all becomes perfectly clear. You realize that you never could have gotten to point X without events A,B,C, and Q, even if they seemed unnecessary at the time.
