We are going to Disney in September with our two sons ages 4 and 18 months. We have several character meals scheduled. We would love to have custom outfits for our boys that coordinate to the character meals. Please share any thoughts or ideas. (I can sew, but I am not an expert.)

Here are the character meals we are attending as well as my thoughts on outfits. Your opinions are greatly appreciated, and any suggestions will be considered.

O'Hana Breakfast - I thought maybe do the boys each some Hawaiian shorts and then applique or embroider either Stitch or Pluto on their shirts.

Crystal Palace - I thought I'd do my youngest a jon-jon with either Tigger or Pooh on it and do my oldest some shorts and a shirt that coordinates.

Cape May breakfast - I am thinking just let the boys wear their Cars swimsuits and make them cute t-shirts to go with them.

1900 Park Fare dinner - I don't have any idea here. HELP!

Tusker House breakfast - I was thinking khaki safari shirts and shorts to match.

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas in advance!

I have a ds as well as a dd so I am trying to come up with some coordinating themes as well. Though I generally prefer solids and plain clothes as I think they look better in photos, so I am not going with any t-shirts that are overly graphic.

I found a custom cute Minnie dress that is basically red with white polka dots and a bit of contrasting black w/ white polka dots and a silhoutted Minnie on the skirt part (never mind I showed it to dd and she didn't like it). For DS I'll make a red t-shirt with a painted black stencil of Mickey and have him wear black shorts or pants with it. That will be our MK outfit (though we have park hopper so will get some crossover).

DD wants a princess dress as well (actually that's her preference for everyday) so I am debating between the BBB boutique dress and buying a cotton one. She'll wear that the morning of BBB and then over to the Akershus PSD. Not quite sure what to do with ds that day. I may just do a nice polo or button down in a coordinating color with dd.

For AK I will do an animal print dress for dd with a black Mickey head and have ds wear cargo shorts or pants and a t-shirt with a Mickey head and pith helmet (hoping I can make it myself).

For Epcot I found dd an gorgeous, albeit beyond budget, custom with Nemo so I'll make ds a t-shirt to coordiante with that. I was hoping to find a nice Crush applique, but he doesn't seem to be on any of the Nemo fabric I've seen thus far (I'm early into researching though so hopefully will find something). It bums me out that the Nemo ride and Living Seas are at Epcot and the Nemo show is at AK. May park hop there just to make statements with the outfits. DH would kill me if he knew so I'll tell him it has something to do with our scheduling of a lunch LOL!

I'll likely do a Cars theme for DHS with a custom dress for dd and a t-shirt for ds. Problem is the nice custom t-shirts I see have big images front and center, and I'd actually prefer a smaller image upper left. May see what I can do. Since clothes are custom if smaller images are available I'll go with that.

I honestly prefer to keep things simpler as I think pictures look better that way.

We have one other night there and I have nothing planned for that yet. I need to search through more threads for more ideas.

I like all of your ideas. For Ohana you could also do Hawaiian shirts (ON always has a decent selection) and then do an applique on the shorts. I saw an AK outfit that had the appliques on a boy's shorts and it was cute.

Your ideas for CP and AK are perfect.

For 1900 PF I have no ideas for you either. And we may do that dinner as well so dd can wear a Cinderellla dress but again I'm at a loss for ds. I think we'd all puke trying to dress him like Prince Charming. Maybe he'd go for a nice polo with the mice embroidered on the pocket (but so doubt I could ever find something like that).

I hope more people chime in with their ideas. I love hearing them and actually thought about posting a similar thread. We also have the night of the MVMCP so I may do some sort of red and green Mickey Christmas apparel for that. In the mean time, I've been slowly getting through the Disboutiquers and Disigners threads looking for ideas.

Adding on that I just did a search for Disney appliques and found some small decent cars ones.

Just thought I'd let you know in case you wanted to put something small in the upper left corner of a t-shirt to go with your boys' swim trunks.

Of course, I still can't find a darn thing that would work for the 1900 PF dinner:mad:

Have you gone to the Creative DISigns board here? I got wonderful stuff from these DISigners and printed them on iron-on transfer paper and then ironed them on T-shirts. We went with a grand gathering, so we had a grand gathering shirt, a Jedi Mickey T-shirt, and a Pirate Mickey shirt (for the Albatross Pirate Cruise). The DISigners have some really creative stuff. It was hard to limit myself. We made the T-shirts for our trip in April and my kids still where their custom shirts now. They hold up really well and you wouldn't ever know they were homemade.

We also bought matching t-shirts from disneyshopping when they had the t-shirts on sale. They had a bunch of matching t-shirts in both kids and adult sizes.

Thanks for the ideas and encouragement. I don't want to do too much on the shirts because I want my boys to be the focus of the picture, not their clothes. I am going to keep looking and thinking.

As for 1900 Park Fare, I don't think either of my boys would go for a Prince Charming costume. I may end up doing them a polo type shirt with something on it.

I just ordered several Disney outfits from Kmart.com. Mickey, Cars, Nemo...they were shorts & shirts outfits on clearance for around $4.00 an outfit! I ordered 18mths, since that's what DS is wearing now & hopefully will still be wearing in 3 mths...but they had other sizes & cute toddler clothes as well. :) Not perfect matches to your meals, but if you don't want to make something...

Here are the custom shirts I made for my 3 year old son. I sewed up some simple shorts with matching prints too.
I LOVE the DISigners board on here! I got most of the images by browsing the DISigner's photobucket accounts, then you print on transfer paper (Amy Mickey sells the best kind), trim and iron onto tshirts. They look perfect!

Hi! Come check out the Disboutiqer's thread, I think you'll get some great ideas-

For Park Faire, how about a saying embroidered like Prince Charming in Training or In search of Cinderella, etc.

For Ohana; one of the girls in the Disboutiqer's thread did an awesome bowling shirt (check out carla c's pattern on www.youcanmakethis.com) in a red and white hawiian print with an applique of stitch- it was awesome!

When in doubt, there's always the classic mickey head or character applique like these:

For our Ohana breakfast, I bought 2 of the same Hawiian print shirt. I'm going to cut one up to use the fabric to make a mickey head applique on a white tee. Then he an wear his matching Hawaiian shirt over it unbuttoned. He's 3 and I'm trying to come up with some cute customs for him for our Oct trip as well!

I think your ideas sound great and for 1900 Park Fare...if you don't want to do the applique shirt/short thing, I think a classic polo with some khaki's would be super adorable!

BTW, what part of Alabama are you from? I am originally from Florence/Killen (lived there for nearly 30 years) until we moved to Atlanta.

I'm another one who makes outfits for DS or buys a themed one. And when I say "make", I mean the iron on transfers with the help from the great people on the DISigns board. last year, we had family matching mickey shirts, disney family shirts and something else I can't remember. I also made cute disney bibs for DS. DH refuses to do it this year, so I'm just doing it for DS and this is what i have mapped out so far:

Ohano breakfast - hawaiin shirt with a stitch applique on it
CRT breakfast - A tshirt saying "Hi my name is Isaac, may I be your prince charming?" on it with prince charming and all of the princesses
EPCOT - a tshirt saying "Isaac and Nemo swimming through epcot" with a picture of spaceship earth and Nemo - my son is on a Nemo kick right now
MGM - tshirt with Isaac and hot dog dance for playhouse disney
AK - I found a great mickey safari outfit from Kmart for $3.49
Halloween Party - I'm bringing a skeleton pirate costume I bought from disney store for $9.99 but, if it's too hot, I'm bringing a back up of a tshirt that looks like jack skellington's suit and I'm going to make up his face either way. DH and I are wearing nightmare before christmas tshirts too.
I'm still trying to figure out Hoop de Doo Revue.

For Hoop de Doo you could do pants (rolled up) with a plaid shirt and suspenders,

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to attempt an iron on design on a t-shirt either tonight or tomorrow. My DS 4 wanted a shirt to wear with a new pair of pajama shorts he just got so I thought I'd try out a DIS design and see if he liked it. I'll let you know how it goes.

When we took our boys to Disney last year (they were 4 & 7) we put them in matching outfits every day. It was easier to keep track of them if they were wearing the same thing.

I don't know how much longer they'll let me dress them alike, but for now they think it's cool.

The reason I do this is my MIL once told me the story of her sister getting lost in a crowded area and when the police officer asked her mother what she was wearing her mother was so panicked that she couldn't remember.

My favorite outfit that they wore on that trip was a plain white t-shirt with a black Mickey head embroidered on the front. My MIL made it for them with coordinating mickey shorts. The simple black on white looked great in pictures!

Have a great trip!
Gigi

I LOVE the Hawaiian Mickey head with Stitch and would love to use it for our Ohana breakfast too. Do you know what DISigner made them for you? Thanks!
