Outer Rim Lounge at Contemporary

Has anybody been to the Outer Rim lately? If so, do you know what time it closes? Last time we were there it closed kind of early around 8 or 9 so I'm wondering if it stays open later during May.

The Outer Rim is the only lounge that is open during the day on the monorail. When we were there last August, it was open at 11 pm... and when we were there last January, we stopped for a drink around 10:30 pm. I have never heard that it closed at 8 pm.

I too have never heard of it closing that early...about the earliest I've ever seen it close was about 11...and midnight on busy nights with conventions/weekends etc.

If you'd like to try the taste of the Classic Contemporary ala circa the '70's ask for a 'monorail gold' (it's a drink you can get it w/o alcohol too)....but only the more senior CM's there will know what your' asking for...Betti or Duggin will know!...tell 'em "Goofy" sent ya!

I dont think you'll have any problems....don't ya just love sitting there and watching the monorail come thur?

Do they serve any food at the Outer Rim?If memory serves me we ate( Appetizers) there in 85, back in the day when they had the Broadway type show at the Contemporary.

Yes they still offer some goodies from the CG...there's a little menu on most tables

Okey-Dokey....

Monorail Yellow ( my 'bad' I thought it called 'gold' )

1 1/2 oz rum
3 oz orange juice
3/4 oz coconut cream
2 1/2 oz pineapple juice
3/4 C crushed ice
Maraschio cherry
Orange slice

Combine rum, oj, coconut cream, pineapple jucie and ice in a blender. Blend for 10 seconds and pour into a tall glass. Garnish with cherry and orange.

This beverage was born in the "Top of the World" (were California Grill is today) in the early seventies. There was also a Monorail Red and Monorail Pink. (I have those reciepes too if you'd like)

While my tastes don't usually follow to sweet drinks...I CAN tell you...that on a warm Florida evening....with one of these in your hand...watching the EWP under a star lite sky is a memory of some magic that can sustain you thur cold winter months!

the outer rim lounge is located on the 4th floor concourse of the CR.....if you walk as if you were going into Chef Mickeys the outer rim is on your left and the concourse steakhouse will be on your right.
