Happy New Year everone!!

We're considering visiting the outer banks of North Carolina this spring. Just a nice, leisurely drive. Although we travel extensively, we have never been there and have no idea where to begin. If it helps... my wife LOVES horses, and we both love festivals... especially barbeque festivals. All information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Phillip

Not sure I would call a drive around Baltimore, DC and anywhere on the 95 corridor lesiurley :rotfl: (looks like you are from PA)

We like the Outerbanks. We love this community in Northern Outerbanks North Carolina, but really you can't go wrong in any of the communities whether you head north to Corolla or South to Nags Head.

Happy Planning!

For another Outer Banks treat, take a drive down the length of the island. The further south you go, the more remote the beaches. Buxton is home to a lovely state park area....if you fish and have a 4 wheel drive vehicle this is the place to be! In this park is the Hatteras Lighthouse...very historic and quite lovely. Its a working lighthouse and nothing is more magical that watching that grand light from the beach at night.
Keep driving South into Hatteras Village. At the very tip of the island there is a ferry boat that takes you to the island of Ocrakoke...very remote and sooooo lovely.

Have a good trip!

Another vote for Ocrakoke!

We are going in May. We rented a Condo on the beach and I am totally excited to introduce Lucas to the ocean there. It's very quiet in comparison to other beaches!

We love the outer banks area! We stay yearly for a week on Emerald Isle. Its very close to Hammocks Beach State park where you can take a scenic ferry boat out to Bare Island to spend the day on a strip of the most beautiful piece of beach. YOu are also minutes from Pine Knoll Shores aquarium.

Here is a link to various activities, many we have done with the kids!

The Cape Lookout ferry is a day trip not to be missed! And dont forget to add an evening or morning before the sun gets to high to Beaufort. Great history and great shopping and quaint dining. And since you are horse lovers hit a boat ride out to the Rachel Carson Nature Preserve.

Here our two of the house rental companies we have used and with success.

Also, its worth the bit extra to rent ocean front. TRUST ME! Second row is just a sad view and anything else isnt worth calling itself a beach vacat

We just went to the Outer Banks last summer (first time in many years since I have been there). We really enjoyed the northern part of the Outer Banks (and they are less of a drive from NY). Corolla has wild horse tours. Duck is a quaint village that has many shops. We enjoyed the Wright Brother memorial in Kill Devil Hills. By far our favorite place was Jockey Ridge State Park. The park is made up of the largest sand dunes on the East Coast and is just amazing at sunset. We decided not to rent a house that trip but were very happy with Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk. It has both indoor and outdoor pools and its own fishing pier. We rented bikes at Kitty Hawk Cycle Company and they were very helpful giving us advice on bike trails (even easy ones we could do with the kids). We are happily planning a trip for next summer we enjoyed the trip so much! Have a great time!
