Outdoor reception

I'm sure there's a thread floating around somewhere regarding this but I can't seem to find it..

I'm looking for opinions on everyone's experience with an outdoor reception. Not so much a specific location, just the overall experience.

I LOVE the idea of being outside at night, especially since we're doing April so the weather would be gorgeous. Then again, the idea of rain is a little nerveracking so DF isn't sold on the idea. In my research I found that April is the month with the least precipitation in Orlando so I'm hoping we'd luck out.

Florida pretty much does not follow the guidelines of April Showers, we never got the memo
It barely rains and when it does, it's almost always short lived.

I don't have any experience with the receptions, though.

You don't see too many DFTW receptions that are exclusively outdoors—there are the rooms that have patios, like Whitehall, the Attic, and the St. James Room. Most of the all-outdoor receptions are in Epcot for IllumiNations. I've been to a few of these, and they are lovely if the weather is cooperating (that said, I've been to WDW in January, February, March, May, September, October and December and have only seen it rain at night once).

I think that in general Disney prefers and encourages you to choose venues that offer indoor space because of the unpredictability of weather. Even if it's not raining, there might be an unseasonal cold snap, wind, or, at certain times of the year, swarms of lovebugs even... So you'd just have to make it clear that you understand all the myriad things that could go wrong but are willing to take the chance.
