Our Outback restaurant has curbside pickup. You call in the order. When you arrive someone comes out to your car, takes your payment and then brings you your food. In my opinion its not a tipped position - its almost like going through a drive thru restaurant like McDonalds. But sometimes it seems like they expect a tip. I've only used the service 2 times and I didnt tip - my husband used it once and tipped, he said he felt he was expected to. Since we'll probably get Outback this weekend I just wanted to find out what we're supposed to do.

My question is - do you tip them for bringing you your food and if so, how much?

Yes I do. We've ordered curb side pickup from them often.

I tip 10%:D I am just so darn happy to not have to cook, drive up and someone brings out my food, and have a great meal at home that I think it deserves a tip.

I'm interested to see other peoples comments as well.

Oh man, I completely don't remember. We have used curbsite twice too. Its awesome when you are travelling and get in late to your hotel. Its wonderful to sit in the room eating great Outback food.

I am planning on using it this upcoming weekend while I am traveling for work. I am so excited there is an Outback near my hotel.

I hope someone can enlighten on this prior to my trip.

Yes, I always tip. I worked in the restaurant industry for many years. Someone has to put that order together, make sure it's correct and bring it out to you. I usually tip about 10%.

Yes, 2-5 dollars depending on how much we spend. My cousin used to work for Outback and said that the curbside people are on the same waige as the servers (they rotate positions), so the tips is how they make their money.

I always tip for take-out food (non-fast food). I see them as two seperate types of service. Like a pp said, the fast food workers are paid hourly, yet the employees at the restaurants (take out employees included) are paid the same low hourly rate, and mostly work for tips.

I don't know that I give a certain percentage. Definitely not the 20% I tip when sitting down to a meal out, but somewhere around $5.

I have never used this service, but have seen it offered and I guess I never thought about it. I have a follow on to this, what about at Appleby's where you actually go inside to get your order? Or a place like Sonic, where they bring your order to your car?
