Is it true? Disneyland/California Adventure will soon eliminate the annual pass and replace it with a “monthly membership” pass? Is it true? The new cards will no longer have your picture or an expiration date? I really hope this isn’t a rumor. Monthly payments for all, not just California pass holders would be wonderful! How nice would it be to have a monthly bill for something as wonderful as Disneyland? Sure beats my phone, gas, electric and water bills!

There was a monthly renewed pass concept was discussed here and on other boards. It was NOT discussed on any official Disney site, but more rumor and speculation on various message boards. It was described as a membership type plan as opposed to an annual pass. The membership concept was described as being a monthly renewal type deal in which your AP would just renew month after month after month forever until you pro-actively call to cancel it. The concept would mean there would be no expiration date on it because it would renew for eternity, unless you cancel it.

Again, this is rumor and speculation written about and discussed online from non-Disney individuals, nothing official from Disney.

As for no photo on your pass, this is already happening. Your photo is still in the system and shows when scanned through the system, but it is not on your physical pass.

The source of the rumor is Al Lutz. It's discussed at the end of his column here:

Apparently it's a concept under consideration at TDA. As far as I'm aware, nothing definite has been announced - it's still just a rumor.

And the speculation was that it would require a minimum initial "membership" probably a year. Anything less makes the early months priced too low. -- Suzanne

I've been hoping they DON'T go with monthly membership idea. :sad2: That would totally ruin my system of getting an AP one summer, using it once during the school year, then get in a second summer vacation before the AP expires. We then let it go for that school year and start over with a new pass the next summer.

The one possible benefit would be you end up locking in your price forever. I would love to be paying the $139/yr I was paying 11 years ago.

I'm sure they wouldn't lock in a price. The membership fee would probably increase occasionally.
