I guess like everyone here I am trying to save a few bucks. The price of lodging out side the park is so tempting! We have always stayed in the park.

How good or bad is the motel provided transportation to the park? How long would you need to allow time wise? Do certain chains do a better job of staying on a schedule or do you call and tell them you need a ride or what?

Any ideas and comments will help!

What time of year will you be going? Have you checked out the cost of a value resort? Or what about renting points for a studio from a DVC owner?

If you are staying during a value season you can probably get a code to the lower the cost of the room & points per night are less at this time also.

Good luck - I hope you can swing it so you can stay on-site.

BTW - I am not familiar with hotel shuttles so I can't help with that question.

From what I've observed and heard, no off-site hotels offer great transportation to and from the parks; the times are limited, so you pretty much have to make their schedule your schedule. It may not be as big of a deal for adults, so it might be something you can swing. You might get more info on the Orlando area Attractions/hotels board.

However, you might be able to swing the cost of a car given the amount of money you can save by staying off-site. You could try mousesavers.com to see codes/deals some rental companies may be offering. You can also try priceline for a car, or a car and hotel using their vacation packages option; that way you'd also be able to choose which hotel you stay at (unlike just a hotel room, when you use priceline for vaca packages, you get to pick your hotel.)

Or, you could try a hotel in the downtown disney area, and use DTD transportation instead.

Sorry I forgot to mention the time frame. Travel will be mid march of this year. I know last minute!

I have heard horror stories of the shuttles and I think staying at Downtown Disney might solve that. Otherwise I think finding a good rate inside Disney is going to have to work!

I am having a hard time finding any place that offer breakfast. Any ideas on that one?

Thanks!

Here's a link to the DIS's description of the DTD area hotels. I don't think that any offer a free breakfast but the Holiday Inn (formerly the Courtyard by Marriott) used to have a reasonably-priced breakfast buffet.
