Our "Wonder-ful" first cruise - 6/21-24
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sailing for the first time EVER!!!
Me...Paula.....49 and a Disney lover!
DD...Alyssa...20 another Disney lover!
Day #1...
Post day #1 I should say that I am wondering why I didn't take the night before off - I say night because I work till 11pm - from home - but still work... I'm pretty much packed....DD finally finished clothes shopping today...doing my nails at 11pm.....excited....well YEAH!!
Flight leaves Providence at 6:30am.....I'm up around 4am - only to find that DD decided not to sleep at all.....crazy college kid.....shower quickly and we are on our way to the airport......DD repeats several times "why are there people up and driving at this hour?"......we get to the airport and park in the parking garage. At this point I have not realized that I forgot 2 things - 1. my cell phone (thought for sure I switched it when I changed purses - would not be a big deal except for the fact that I had arranged to meet a fellow DIS'er at the port to see us off and of course her cell # is only in my phone - 2. my sunglasses - again a big deal for me since I wear glasses and it took me a long time to find clip-ons that would fit them....
We decide to do the outside check in.....I'd say about 10 families in front of us .....seemed long until we were done and saw the inside line for check in - SMART MOVE - to check in inside. Got coffee (the first of many) and waited for our flight.
Flight was on time - had a layover in Charlotte (more coffee - Starbucks vanilla bean frapacchino) - connecting flight was on time - Dd slept most of the way - I thoroughly enjoyed the bag of 10 pretzels (thank you US Air) - napped a bit - started reading a new book - James Patterson's Beach Road.
Landed in Orlando @ 11:30am....at this point the cruise is still surreal - I'm feeling like I'm going to WDW.....until I go to a different check in line....which went very smoothly by the way .....and off to the DCL busses!!! I would say total time between check in at the airport until the bus (we had a new one with porthole windows) filled up and left was @ 30 minutes - gotta love the Disney effeciency!
The ride to the port was fairly quick - the building is ablolutely beautiful!! Got checked in with my problems.....now.....where is my DIS friend......I was so looking forward to seeing her - we sit.....we wait....we walk around the port several times......no Suzanne......or at least I don't see her.....finally I tell DD we may as well just go on board since we have no way of reaching her.....(later I found out that she was outside - little did either of us know that non-travellers at not allowed in the building).
OK.... we are walking thru the giant Mickey ears......getting our picture taken.... having our name called as we are welcomed aboard......OMG..... we really are on a Disney Cruise (safe to say DD is fully awake now!).
Hopefully I don't look too much like some country bumpkin with a neon sign on my head flashing "I've never been on a cruise before - I mostly go to campgrounds"...... I am experiencing a feast for the eyes......since it's nearly 2pm we set off to find our cabin - we are on Deck #6 - inside cabin 6089. Aha - we have found our home away from home....and what's this??? - on the bed - 2 WDW tote bags.....with attached signs that say "Happy Belated Birthday and Enjoy Your First Cruise".....my bag is filled with Pooh goodies and Alyssa's with Princess goodies......have we experienced some real magic here??? I think we are too shocked to really think where they may have come from (more about that later).
Our stateroom is nice - plenty of space for 2 adults- there is a card from our stateroom host - his name is Charlie.
Our luggage has not arrived yet so we set off to Beach Blanket Buffet....yes - we are starving.....
Next post:
Buffet heaven
we meet the "Lollipop Kids"
Birthday Party extravaganza!
