Our "Wonder-ful" first cruise - 6/21-24

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sailing for the first time EVER!!!
Me...Paula.....49 and a Disney lover!
DD...Alyssa...20 another Disney lover!

Day #1...

Post day #1 I should say that I am wondering why I didn't take the night before off - I say night because I work till 11pm - from home - but still work... I'm pretty much packed....DD finally finished clothes shopping today...doing my nails at 11pm.....excited....well YEAH!!

Flight leaves Providence at 6:30am.....I'm up around 4am - only to find that DD decided not to sleep at all.....crazy college kid.....shower quickly and we are on our way to the airport......DD repeats several times "why are there people up and driving at this hour?"......we get to the airport and park in the parking garage. At this point I have not realized that I forgot 2 things - 1. my cell phone (thought for sure I switched it when I changed purses - would not be a big deal except for the fact that I had arranged to meet a fellow DIS'er at the port to see us off and of course her cell # is only in my phone - 2. my sunglasses - again a big deal for me since I wear glasses and it took me a long time to find clip-ons that would fit them....

We decide to do the outside check in.....I'd say about 10 families in front of us .....seemed long until we were done and saw the inside line for check in - SMART MOVE - to check in inside. Got coffee (the first of many) and waited for our flight.

Flight was on time - had a layover in Charlotte (more coffee - Starbucks vanilla bean frapacchino) - connecting flight was on time - Dd slept most of the way - I thoroughly enjoyed the bag of 10 pretzels (thank you US Air) - napped a bit - started reading a new book - James Patterson's Beach Road.

Landed in Orlando @ 11:30am....at this point the cruise is still surreal - I'm feeling like I'm going to WDW.....until I go to a different check in line....which went very smoothly by the way .....and off to the DCL busses!!! I would say total time between check in at the airport until the bus (we had a new one with porthole windows) filled up and left was @ 30 minutes - gotta love the Disney effeciency!

The ride to the port was fairly quick - the building is ablolutely beautiful!! Got checked in with my problems.....now.....where is my DIS friend......I was so looking forward to seeing her - we sit.....we wait....we walk around the port several times......no Suzanne......or at least I don't see her.....finally I tell DD we may as well just go on board since we have no way of reaching her.....(later I found out that she was outside - little did either of us know that non-travellers at not allowed in the building).

OK.... we are walking thru the giant Mickey ears......getting our picture taken.... having our name called as we are welcomed aboard......OMG..... we really are on a Disney Cruise (safe to say DD is fully awake now!).

Hopefully I don't look too much like some country bumpkin with a neon sign on my head flashing "I've never been on a cruise before - I mostly go to campgrounds"...... I am experiencing a feast for the eyes......since it's nearly 2pm we set off to find our cabin - we are on Deck #6 - inside cabin 6089. Aha - we have found our home away from home....and what's this??? - on the bed - 2 WDW tote bags.....with attached signs that say "Happy Belated Birthday and Enjoy Your First Cruise".....my bag is filled with Pooh goodies and Alyssa's with Princess goodies......have we experienced some real magic here??? I think we are too shocked to really think where they may have come from (more about that later).

Our stateroom is nice - plenty of space for 2 adults- there is a card from our stateroom host - his name is Charlie.
Our luggage has not arrived yet so we set off to Beach Blanket Buffet....yes - we are starving.....

Next post:
Buffet heaven

I love the little mice on your posting, they are so cute! I am also enjoying your report, I will be going on my first Disney cruise in December! :yay:

Looking forward to more!

Disclaimer:

I should have mentioned in my first post that this was meant to be just a relaxing vaca for DD and me - we did go to the shows but chose not to stand in line for character photos - etc.

Now that doesn't mean that we didn't "feel the magic" just wanted to note that you will not see alot of character info in my report.

Sorry.....busy week....now where were we? Oh yes - proceeding to beach Blanket Buffet.... nice touch that they give hand sanitizer wipes on the way in...
The buffet was great - it was so nice to have "real food" choices - not like the standard counter service food - my DD does not eat meat and she had plenty to choose from. I had potatoes - veggies- steamship round....nice!! *** we never even saw the pasta/taco/salad bar till day#3 - hahaha **** dessert bar has many choices - we opted for cookies. Note that we did go at a busy time - @2pm - took a while to find a seat. the wait staff is highly effecient though as soon as someone gets up the swoop in and clean the table immediately.

Once we were fed we proceeded to the Promenade Lounge - as we were scheduled to meet with 2 DIS'ers that were also going to be our dining companions. Upon entering we immediately saw brady961 (Marsha) and luvalldisney (Ellouise) - both dressed in lime green from head to toe (hence the "lollipop kids" title) and holding their "pals" Mickey and Minnie. It was like seeing old friends - thanks to the DIS we had been communicating and it was truely like meeting old friends. They were so gracious- even made us a sign for and Mickey ears for our door!!
That meeting was brief....we had to hurry on along to the safety drill.

Once again - Disney geta an A+ for effeciency - the drill went very well - very quick - I laughed at some of the little ones who soooo wanted to blow that whistle attached to the life preserver.

Back to the room and I unpacked - DD took a nap - then we were off to the sail-away party!! That was lots of fun - we watched from deck 10 - we sang and danced - I realized we were moving.....wait....yes - moving...I'm not dizzy - queasy - nothing!! this is great!! After that back to the room to change for dinner - casual night - Parrot Cay.

For those that may want to know we both wore cotton skirts and polo's for dinner - I wore a light sweater and was glad that I did - not used to A/C. Our dinner mates (who I will refer to as M&E) were already seated when we arrived - we had a table just for the 4 of us - well 6 if you count the Pals - haha - who I might add were very well behaved at all the dinners. Shortly after we met our server - Kerry - he was delightful - always made us laugh and asst server Pandy - they were quite a duo. I had the cold mango soup it was delish!! I don't remember what Alyssa had but I do recall that she could not decide between 2 of the appetizers so they brought her both. For dinner I had the grouper - she had chicken....oh and of course we had to participate in the conga line before dessert! I ordered the creme brulee - ew all ordered dessert - but wait - there was something else - a birthday cake for DD (she had turned 20 on June 5) - our servers and dining room hostess sang and they even made her a Minnie bow out of a napkin - she was most pleased. From there we took most of the cake back to our room - I think we did some deck walking before bed...again - me....walking out on the deck - no sea sickies!!

Next up:
