We love to eat out and it's a bit of down time for us when we do so. We had a bit of an interesting meal the other night when we visited a spot where the wait staff got a bit too relaxed :rolleyes1. How about the waitress at the restaurant we visited actually got so into talking with us she actually SAT at our table :scared: .

I am so serious, she was rambling on about her children and the school schedule and if we had children... My husband and I are friendly people we were polite and chatted back. I'll admit it me more so than him. Well after bringing our food she actually pulled out the empty chair and sat down! WHAT! WHAT! I kicked my husband so hard in the leg he actually winced :confused3 . I was like "What the  " She proceeded to chat a bit more and by this point we were answering her in monosylable replies and she got the hint. I actually felt bad being a bit rude, cause I am usually not like that, but c'mon it was a tad uncomfortable to say the least. No we were not the only people eating in her area either, just the ones she decided would make good friends I guess :grouphug:

MY DH and I were actually hysterical talking about it later. Seriously, I wouldn't of had the nerve to EVER do something like that. My husband said she may have been a bit "socially inept" or we are just two of the greatest listeners :listen: ever :rotfl2:

While I think it a bit odd I wouldn't have the same reaction as you. It wouldn't of made me change my behavior towards her or laugh about it later.

I have never worked as a waitress before. I think it is very hard work and you are on your feet a lot.

Now if she started eating your food............................. ;)

I believe a couple different chains actually train their staff to do that.

Outback?

We were at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago and some one from the bar (a young man) picked up his plate and joined the 2 of us at our table
The waitress asked if it was our son and we told her, no, we didn't know him.
She spoke to the manager and they asked him to go into the back.....seems he was an employee on his break :rotfl:
Waitress said that was odd and apoligized.
I thought it was rather creepy.

I would've sat there and been nice and once she left I would've looked at dear SO like what was that about and laughed about it in the car and probably avoid that place for a while.

We had this experience at WDW--Whispering Cafe. It was late and i guess our waiter had tired feet. He was a great waiter, put usi n the back away from all the noise, even brought a special meal out for DS when he realized that Christian(autistic) couldn't eat anything off the menu. Then he plopped down and proceeded to tell us how he had worked at Brown Derby for about 12yrs and how the management had recently broken up all the wait staff and moved them to other venues and how he didn't like working at WC so much, etc, etc... :confused3 We were just kinda looking at each other like, what the ?? It left a bad taste in my mouth, frankly. I'm sure his manager would have been upset. We didn't tell on him--i hoped he was just having a bad night. And he was a good waiter otherwise. But it felt weird.

No this was not a chain actually. It was a large Italian restaurant in our area. It just struck me as a bit "off", I mean I understand she may have been tired and it's very hard work being a waitperson, but c'mon my dh and I were there for a dinner out together, alone. You don't just up and park yourself at someones table after you bring the food while they are eating, "that's just wrong" as my son would say. And we weren't particularly laughling at her, it was more at the situation that we found ourselves in :teeth:

Too funny. Down here we don't think anything of our waiter of waitress sitting down and talking because we usually have known them for awhile since we are "regulars". However if its in a restaurant I don't know anybody I would try to take it as a compliment and be gracious.

We had that happen to us once, but it was a GOOD thing!

Last year we were having a late dinner at the Rose and Crown, and over the course of dinner chatted a little with our waitress.

By the end of the meal, we were the last one's in there, and she sat down with us and we talked for awhile.

She was from Scotland, and was telling us all about that, and then started telling us some funny stories about her and her friends on vacation.

We were laughing so hard we were actually crying!

It was truly the highlight of our trip!

Knowing me I would hae enjoyed it. My DD and I got so chatty with some of the wait people at WDW last year that if they didn't pull up a chair it was only because they were too busy. Actually, maybe one or two of them did. But for those of you know know me here, it probably wouldn't come as a surprise that I'm chatty in real life, too. :teeth:

Really? I never would of guessed. :goodvibes :rotfl:

Happens all the time at one restaurants where we are regulars. We have been going there for 25 years almost every Saturday so it is lke family. Also happens to use at Chili's because our daughter is usually our waitress but that is a special circumstance. Used to happen at Denny's as well with a waiter we knew for years.

As mentioned above, Outback Steakhouse actually encourages the waitstaff to sit at an open chair. Around here Applebee's does the same thing. Also Hooter's girls do it as well.

Oh, and Miss Smarty Pants PhD, we talked about you at Trader Joes today when Jake insisted on buying the sesame noodles. I told my kids that I read about them on the DIS boards, which of course they laughed at. Jake did get excited when I told him that you have a girl about your age. Watch out for him! I showed Jake her picture and he agrees that she's cute! :teeth:

This happens to DH and I quite often and we enjoy it. :teeth:

Usually I don't mind it. But one time when we went to Outback the waitress sat down next to me in the booth and sat really close to me, totally freaked me out.

I've had waiters sit down to take my order before - no problem. I would think it was very strange if they set down our food and then joined us at mealtime.

Our waiter at the Rose and Crown sat with us too. While taking our order and later when picking up our plates. He was delightful. I thought nothing of it! This was two years ago and we thought it was great (DD and I ).
