So I need some advice. We have our trip booked for May 17-23 and now I'm worried about the dreaded love bugs! Does anyone have any advice regarding these bugs? Should I cancel my trip? My husband went to WDW on our honeymoon Labor day weekend 2009 and never had an issue with the love bugs. Should I be concerned?

Thank you for your help!

They are plentiful on car windshields and no more a nuscience then house flies in the summer. Definitely not worth Worrying about or cancelling your trip over :thumbsup2

We went May 2-8 last year and I don't think I noticed them once. I can't imagine it would be drastically different a few weeks later but I'm not sure!

Summer has bugs just about everywhere. :) I wouldn't be more worried about bugs there than I would be going on a walk in the local park. The real problem is simply when driving-- they get all over the windshield since you're cruising around 70-80MPH, and the heat cakes them on. If you guys are driving then just stop by somewhere and power-hose the windshield. Problem solved. :)

FYI...they are attracted to the color white...sounds strange but they are... wear other coloring clothing if possible. They can come in April, May, June...There were some at my son's baseball game yesterday. I wouldn't worry too much about them, like the PP said, not worth canceling a trip over.

We were there last year around the same time and didn't really have an issue. Maybe a few on the windshield but nothing to stress over!

We LOVE going in may. Best. Weather. EVER. We saw lovebugs. They are harmless, usually stuck to each other and never bothered us. Give those to me any day over wasps, black flies and misquitos!

Yes, you should totally cancel your trip due to a few bugs.:P

Seriously, they're no big deal. We noticed them during our Sept. trips, but just in a "Huh--those must be the lovebugs everyone on the Dis get all fussed about" rather than a "Good lord! Those bugs are swarming everything! Take cover!" kind of way.
Probably many people don't even notice them unless they happen to be all over their vehicle windshield.

Like previous posters, we saw them during our September trips. The worst was the drive there, not in the parks. They stick like glue to the windshield ewww! Once we arrived, we saw a few here and there, but no real swarms in the parks. Occasionally you'd see a pile of dead ones near doors at the resort, so I'm assuming they do some sort of pest control for them. One particularly humid day there were more than a few at DHS near Star Tours, but honestly I can't remember seeing ANY at the other parks. I told the kids to treat them like they were ladybugs - they don't bite, but they will land on you. Flick 'em off and move on! :)

This. They can be unsightly but they're not harmful. Disney cleans up as fast as they can, so also try not to be bothered if you see dead ones around. They only live for a few days anyway, so a lot are bound to die off. My husband HATES anything with spindly legs; it's hysterical. Just coach your kids not to be scared and to just shoo them away and things should be fine. Hopefully they won't be like DH and shy off every time the see one! :D

We've gone to WDW 4 times in April/May and never had a problem. I saw a few one time and they were harmless. No biggie.

Grew up in FLA...

For a week or two out of the year they are crazy thick BUT this is a problem more for cars than anything else.

They are harmless to people and actually kind of cute... for a bug.

They aren't a problem in the parks, at least not that I can recall. If you have a brand new paint job, well, bring a box of tissues because you'll cry after a long drive down I75 when they are in full swing, lol

I don't even really remember seeing love bugs and we've always traveled in April and May. The yellow flies we encountered at Ft. Wilderness one April were enough to make me want to go home early, though. I got swarmed and I only had kid bandaids to wear over the many painful, itchy bites, so my legs were plastered with Hello Kitty and princesses.

We traveled at the end of May a few years ago and saw some, but they were not bothersome at all. Mostly saw them around the resort.
