Our Trip Coulda Been Worse--Look what happened to this family!

OH my... that sounded so similar to our wedding/honeymoon trip at WDW.
I was ok 2 days after the wedding... thank God! And then I was out for the count for the rest of the trip (the honeymoon part).

My mom's honeymoon after her second marriage...she discovered that she had developed a massive shellfish allergy. Not one that caused her face to swell, but one that caused her stomach to revolt, er, propulsively, if that's a word. Poor mom.

Not DLR or WDW, but on DCL my fiance (now DH) got really sick with bronchitis and slept the entire 10 days on the cruise and couldn't move or do anything.

LOL...by the time we got to our honeymoon cruise, I was pregnant, and I basically slept from 8pm to 9am every day, with a nap in between. Sensitive! I barely remember the cruise...when people talk about how kids shouldn't be taken to Disney b/c they won't remember, I ask if I shouldn't have gone on my honeymoon since I didn't remember much of it.

There's something fishy about that story...characters aren't EVER supposed to leave the park, and Buzz Lightyear isn't even supposed to leave Tomorrowland (though he makes appearances in DCA, too). I'm not calling the woman a liar, but there's something awry with her tale. Not to mention, if her daughter was in enough pain she claimed she needed to be taken to the ER, why was her mother dawdling at guest services instead of taking her there?!

Curious.

I agree with the questioners.

yeah I agree with you for the most part but not if it includes physical pain ie breaking a foot, arm, leg etc...

Add me to list of skeptics. I'm not saying her daughter didn't get hurt, but I doubt it was by Buzz (or the one that is actually a Disney CM).

But all this sharing does remind me of the time DH and I went to DL and I got so sick on our second to last day. It was to the point where I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow. DH called the airline to find out if we could get out on an earlier flight...only to find out they had screwed up our original reservation and we were supposed to have flown home the day before! They couldn't get us out of SNA, but they could get us out LAX, which was fine except we had a car to return at SNA. They allowed us to return it to LAX for an additional charge.

And DH wonders why I triple check things like airline reservations, car rentals, etc.

Sorry, but I think the Buzz Lightyear lady was full of it. Characters DO NOT go out to the Esplanade. The closest they come is in front of the floral Mickey, and that's inside the gates. Methinks this woman was trying to get some free stuff. Or money. And why would she be standing there arguing with a CM while her poor daughter is sitting in the room suffering from an untreated broken foot? Sorry, not buying it. Interesting story though. :)

Yeah, it was weird. She didn't come across as trying to get away with anything; she seemed genuinely perterbed and very determined. I just remember hearing her say very matter of factly, "Yes, I want to get a refund on our park tickets," as though she was going to brook no arguments, since their vacation had been ruined. I seem to remember her saying that her husband was back in the hotel with the daughter. But I thought right away that it didn't sound right, because I didn't think characters came out on the Esplanade. Then I thought she must have meant in front of the floral Mickey, but I seem to remember that she said something like, "We have not even entered the gates yet." :confused3

Well, it's just what I overheard; so I don't know what really happened. It just made me feel grateful that all we had was an upset tummy in our family.

In June of 2004 I broke my little toe on the bed in the Disneyland Hotel on our FIRST NIGHT THERE!!!
We had ap's and were staying there with a good AP rate. I was there with my sister, cousin, and 3 small kids (including an infant). I actually got up in the middle of the night to get the baby a bottle and broke my toe on the footboard of the bed. Ouch!!!! It was so dark in the room I couldn't see my toe but knew it really hurt - I thought I had stubbed it really bad until I realized the pain wasn't going away. I went into the bathroom and turned on the light: my little toe was facing the wrong way!!! :scared1:
My sister drove me to the ER (luckily we had three adults with us so we didn't have to drag the kids along with us!). My toe was "put back into place" and wrapped and I was given crutches. Have you ever tried holding an infant while using crutches?? We did go into the parks the next day - I used a wheelchair. But we left a couple of days early.

We were at WDW. We had gone to the MNSSHP and some kid who could not wait his turn shoved me out of the way knocking me to the ground. I ended up with a sprained ankle. 3 CM's saw what happened and ignored my laying on the ground. DS went and got a wheel chair for me. While watching the parade in the HC area I met a Mousekeeper(who was just enjoying her night off) who I told the story to. She actually took me to the first aid station. She stayed with me (so oldest son could go have fun) while they arranged for a van to take me back to the hotel. DH and youngest son had gone back to hotel early and had no idea this was happening.

They actually took me out thru areas that visitors aren't too see. I got to see floats from years past. They also arranged for a ECV in the parks for the rest of my stay.

I made sure Guest relations knew about her so she could get the recognition she deserved.

When we were at DL in Nov, my oldest son got food poisoning from a pizza at Naples in DTD. He woke up in the middle of the night projectile all over the bathroom of the hotel (and the hotel room was nasty enough to begin with). We were at the Carousel Inn, in what must have been the only bad room in the place from what I've gathered from other posters. Needless to say, I was the one who had to clean up the mess in the bathroom. The next AM, DH took the other 2 sons to DL to meet up with friends, and I hung out with oldest DS until late that afternoon when he was able to walk and hold down liquids again. He missed a whole day of fun at the parks, but at least we knew we'd be back again in a few months.

Two years ago, the whole family went to DLR for some fun. The second day there, we ate lunch at Pizza Port, and DH got sick within an hour or so. He threw up in DL (in the bathroom) a few times before we went back to the hotel. I happened to have my DS's pedialyte, so I made DH drink that to try to stay hydrated.

He was so sick for the rest of the day and the entire next day too! The second day of sickness, he was in the bathroom throwing up, and lying on the floor because he had no energy. He leaned over the toilet to throw up, and ended up hitting his forehead on the back of the toilet. When this happened he knocked the seat down which fell on the back of his head. Then... he managed to hit his nose/eye on the front of the toilet in a reaction to hitting the back of his head. (:lmao: just imagine this happening...:lmao: ) He ended up heading home with a bump on the back of his head and a semi-black eye. When he finally returned to work after the trip everyone wanted to know who beat him up at DL! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

At the time he felt like dying, but now we just laugh about it!

There are many pieces of that woman's story that just don't fit. First and foremost, EVERY character has with them another CM (character host) that is there to assist them with walking through the crowds, line up guests waiting for pictures, help with photos and autographs, etc....

If Buzz had crushed a child's foot, the entertainment host would have been right there when it happened.

Not always! I have been in main street near the flag when many characters are out there. I've seen mickey, donald, cruella, the penguins and goofy and they were all unattended. I've only actually seen character hosts a couple of times.

On our first big trip to WDW in 2003, I had to drop our cat off at my sister's house the night before and my idiot BIL :rolleyes1 (at the time) thought it would be great fun to let their dog out:scared1: ...scarred the cat, which my niece was petting at the time. I grabbed the cat, got bit in the hand and clawed in the arms (He is declawed in the front only). I did not think much of it other than cursing at my idiot BIL:rotfl2: . I took some old antibiotics just in case and put antibiotic cream on it and off we went to WDW the next morning. By the time we had enjoyed our first day at WDW, my hand was three times the size it was supposed to be and there was a nice red line going up my arm. I took a medical shuttle to the convenience care center (the hotel arranged it) and 4 hours later I got to pay huge bills and fill out many forms just to get the correct antibiotics!! Cat bites are VERY nasty and you can die from them. :confused3 Oh and they wanted me to quaranteen my cat back in MN! The CM's were great and very helpful, but what a way to start our vacation! My hand was still very sore after we returned home, but we made the best of the vacation and the family fell in love with Disney!!!

I also suffer from migraines and I have had those do me in a few times on trips and I am ALWAYS afraid of them ruining my trips. We are going to DW in November for 10 days and my migraines are getting worse the older I get and I am now on daily meds and so I am really nervous about our upcoming trip. And I too worry about getting sick, either stomach problems or just a bad cold or whatever!

You know, I just have to say that I am SO sorry for people who deal with migraines! It seems like everybody knows a few people who suffer from them, and the stuff they have to go through to try to prevent them, to keep them from getting worse, to try to get over them... and somehow they just deal with it! I know so many people (3 sisters-in-law, for example) that keep leading full and productive lives even though they periodically get knocked flat by migraines so bad that blinking makes them nauseated.

Thanks for sharing your stories here! They're fascinating, in a sort of horrifying way :rotfl: but they make you appreciate all you people who do your best under stressful situations! And you make the best of it whenever you can! :grouphug:
