We just returned from a weeklong stay at the Polynesian Resort. Everything was wonderful!
We arrived at the resort around noon for check in. Only 1 couple was in line before us, so the wait was minimal. We were greeted with a warm "Aloha" and provided with our welcome folder. The agent described each paper inside to us, and joked that we could read it all in our spare time. The room we were originally assigned was ready for us; however, the agent noticed on her own that I needed a ground floor room. She called a manager and he found one for us. That room was not ready for us yet, but we received our Keys to the World and a card with a number to call to check on our room.
By this time we were hungry as our flight had left at 7:55 am, so we decided to pay out of pocket at Kona. This was one of the best meals of the trip! I had the Mahi and it was sooo moist! After eating, our 8 year old DS wanted to ride the monorail, so we decided to ride around to the Magic Kingdom. When we returned, I went to the front desk to get a printout of all our ADR's, and found out our room was ready.
We travelled the beautiful paths with banana trees that had fruit on them, birds of paradise, and bamboo to our room in Tahiti. This longhouse is the farthest from the GCH, but is just steps from the TTC. As we spent most of our time in Epcot or MK, this was perfect! We had an end room, and if we walked out of the doors and down a path to the left we had our own private beach. The view was awesome with Space Mountain, the castle, and the ferryboat to MK.
Our room was quite large, and the bathroom beautiful. We had a towel person waiting for us in the room that had flowers in her hair and on her dress. We had stopped at a Publix store on the way in and purchased snacks and beverages (Landshark lager which we can't get here). The refrigerator held 18 cans of soda, 12 bottles of beer, plus some food. We quickly discovered that if you didn't leave the cabinet doors open in front of the fridge, it did not get your beverages very cold. Once we discovered this trick, we had slushy soda! Yum! Perfect for drinking after a hot day in the parks!
The grounds were immaculate, and we did not see trash piled up on trash cans. The only trash we saw out of place was along the walkway to the TTC where some guests had deposited their soda bottles in the foliage.
We requested turndown service (DS called it cover down service) and only had 1 night missed. In fact, we returned to our room one evening around 9:30 to find Mousekeeping in there doing our turndown. We scared each other, but she was very friendly and said that she had so many to do that she had to stay late. We had chocolate on our beds each evening, and even had another towel person waiting for us.
Captain Cooks is much improved since the last time we stayed prior to the remodel. There is a lot more seating inside, although we elected to eat outside. We ate here just once on our last day for breakfast. As soon as we got our drinks and paid for our meals, the buzzer was going off and our food was ready. The Tonga Toast seems a little different from the last time we tried it. I ate around the bananas and just had a little ot the toast with the sugar - it tasted just like a warm donut!
I can't think of anything else that sticks out in my mind about the resort, but if you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help. I will also be posting dining reviews on that board if you're interested. We had free dining and ate at Coral Reef, Whispering Canyon Cafe, 'Ohanas, Kona, Les Chefs de France, Columbia Harbour House, Sunshine Seasons, Ray's Cosmic Cafe, and Toy Story Pizza Planet.
